Ellie shook Konaa's hand, watching Malthus circle Konaa. It was little weird, but he had popped out of a pile of sand afterall. Giving Konna a smile she introduced herself, "I'm Ellie!" she announced, eagerly. As Konaa had scratched Ellie's companion behind the ear, the dog wagged her tail happily.. but only wanted to be petted again as Konaa stopped. She began to whine again.
Ellie gave her a stare, a don't do that stare, and she calmed down but kept looking at the newcomer.
Konaa hadn't answered her question, but oh-well. It was a delight to meet him anyways, even if he didn't seem that talkative.

Malthus was REALLY starting to weird Konaa out. He was actually wishing he'd brought that sword of his, just to counter this freak's knives. So much false cheer...this was a guy who was TOO friendly. Way too friendly.
Ellie seemed alright, however. Her friendliness seemed natural- making her weird in a different way. How anyone could become accustomed to small talk was way beyond Konaa's comprehension. Still, it was nice of her.
"I don't go to the beach much, so I decided to today."
There was a pause. Dammit, what do you do next? He was visibly confused as to how to carry the conversation. After a few seconds, he slowly uttered a response.
"Do you, er, live around..here?"
Oh that wasn't creepy at all.

"I don't." Malthus replied. "Well... depending on how you define living, anyways. I sometimes sleep here." He was lost in thought... an apparently-common affliction for him, having so much space between thoughts. "Sometimes I sleep in alleys though." He added, as if this made much of a difference. "And sometimes even the rooftops. That's always fun."

He blinked. "You too? I like sleeping on rooftops...Less likely someone will bother me."
Then he realized that Malthus was probably a homeless person from the way he described where he lived...Then he remembered his knives and decided he was a little creepy and probably deserved it. They did have SOMETHING in common, though. Even if he was obviously some sort of thief.
Oh, great, a thief. Konaa was glad he didn't have anything worth stealing, but regardless, he subtly shifted his weight so that he'd be ready to leap away if Malthus tried anything. The only problem was he was unsure as to how to continue the conversation from there.

"Ooooh? Rooftops, now that's a first." Ellie announced, having been out of the conversation for a moment. So..from what Malthus had explained, he seemed to be homeless. If it wasn't for Ellie taking on jobs, and the leftover money from her grandma when she had passed on. So..she felt for him. The towns people knew her pretty well and when they could they helped her out, though she usually preferred to earn things instead of just taking them.
"So...er..Malthus, you're homeless then?" she bluntly asked, though it was really none of her business. It's just the conversation seemed to have died, which felt kind of awkward. "I'm sure you could ask the towns people to help you out, with my Grams dying about a year ago they have helped me out plenty of times. I'm sure you could find a job and save up some money.." she suggested. "I mean..if you're tired of sleeping on the beach.." It was pretty weird to see someone who slept on the beach. Usually everyone around here seemed to live somewhere, she had never really seen anyone homeless before...or it just hadn't really occurred to her.
Also, she would have to try sleeping on a rooftop sometime. I mean the view would probably be beautiful, magical even!

"Eh, I live just fine. A more solitary life is just fine for me, though I do meet some friends sometimes." Malthus grinned. "And people help me all the time, just so you know. It all depends on who you know. I've seen you around a few times, I think, Ellie, but I never talked to you before. And you look familiar too, but I don't think I've seen you." This last sentence was addressed to Konaa.
Then he randomly lay down on the sand and stared up into the sky, apparently for no reason but the hell of it. He stuck his hand under his head... supposedly perfectly comfortable.

Well, that was a relief, Malthus seemed to be more of a weirdo than a creep. Konaa couldn't exactly call anyone weird, though, and he was well aware of it. He relaxed slightly, glad the other two hadn't noticed his heightened defenses. THAT would have been a little awkward to explain to them.
Conversation, conversatio-...Wait. "Familiar, but never seen you." Huh?
He spoke up, a little more directly. "What do you mean?"

Ellie listened as Malthus explained that a more solitary life was okay. But, Ellie couldn't help but wonder where his parents were, what he seemed not too much older than herself? She shrugged lightly to herself.
"Well..I get around." Ellie said, then gave a smile. She did do alot of things for the townspeople, it kept her busy, gave her something to do and there was always likely that she got some sort of reward from it, whether it be munny or something else, along the lines of food or something. Though, some things she has been given have been rather...extravagant.
Ellie had let go of her dog's leash, knowing that she would stay close by. And she wouldn't need any scalding, because if told once not to jump onto people she usually didn't do it again. But..one moment she was there, the next she wasn't! Ellie looked around, off in the distance she saw Lea, her dog, running along the beach chasing after something. "LEA!" she yelled, trying to call her back..
Shucks!
She wondered if the boys would be up to catching a dog, when Lea went after something, she was eager and she was pretty fast too. "Uuhhh..." she said.

Malthus shrugged at Konaa. "I get around everywhere." He remarked shortly, answering the question. That's when the dog ran off. Malthus's head turned towards the dog, and his lips twitched up into a grin. "Don't worry, I got this!" He said, preparing as if for a race...
...then he jumped.
Malthus jumped up into the air 40 feet, springing forwards and landing in the sand to cover large amounts of distance. He had no idea if this would be good enough to catch the dog or not...
...but jumping this high was EXHILARATING.

_______INVASION And then, bubbling up from the sand they came, bringing with them the feeling of unease that can only be found in the dark. Bright yellow eyes, their antenna pointed straight out and away from their heads.
They looked and they saw only your hearts, glowing orbs to corrupt, to twist, to break and rebuild in a new image. Oh, the urge. Even with their small stature, they held no fear. Simply desire. A determined, clenching grip on their singleminded goal. To cover everything in darkness.
Four shadows now stand in a square with Malthus & Lea on one side, Ellie & Konaa to the other. They shiver in anticipation but have yet to move much. [/blockquote] [hp=8/8] [hp=8/8] [hp=8/8] [hp=8/8]

That was silly, he was never going to catch that dog by jumping UP, you have to jump FORWARD to get enough momentum to be effective.
He sighed, leaning back, somewhat glad to find that there were tolerable people out there, but disheartened by how tedious this conversation had been.
...And suddenly, he shivered. There was something...coming. He didn't know how he knew, but he had a bad feeling about this.
"...I think we should-"
When the Heartless appeared, his eyes widened, but he didn't hesitate. He stepped in front of Ellie, in between her and the monsters. He took up an unarmed fighting stance, wishing for once that he had brought his sword.

[hp=32/32] Ellie was about to go run after dog as well, even though Malthus had said that he would go and get Lea for her. But, she didn't have much time to even take five steps for something..yeah, something, for a better use of words, had appeared in front of them. No, literally popped up from beneath the sand. "Uuuhh...Oh dearie my.." she said in a whisper as she stared at them. There were four of them. She looked at Konaa as he stood in front of her. Protecting her.
On the other side of four things was Ellie's dog and Malthus who had gone after her. With one look at the things Lea coward behind Malthus. She began to whimper and had her tail tucked between her legs as she was almost literally clinging to Malthus.
"This...isn't good.." Ellie said outloud, she looked at Konaa then to the things.

Malthus turned around when he landed, hearing the surprise from Ellie and Konaa. "The heck are those?" Surprise showed on his face, then it turned grim. "Whatever they are, they don't look friendly!" He jumped back the way he came, again springing himself forwards by jumping at an angle. As he did so, 3 knives appeared in each hand, and with two tosses he sent them flying towards one of the creatures. He'd seen magic before, so he wasn't sure if this would harm them or not, but still, he might as well throw them with all the skill a Ranged Weapon Student had to offer! [hp=4/4]
Lea looked at the things from where she had been cowering behind Malthus, but he had jumped into the air to attack them. Now, she was pretty much open for being attacked. What was a dog to do in this situation? She looked at the things again, then barked. Her ears perking up. One would wonder what had caught her attention or had changed her mind. She bounded towards the closest one and jumped at it with her jaw wide open, ready to take a bite out of it.
But..just as soon as she had been quick to be ready to attack it, she quickly turned around whining and then began to run away. Fleeing, even without her master. She would wait at the stairs to their place.

He cursed. Whatever these things were, they weren't human. And they were looking to kill, he was sure of that.
"Ellie...Stay behind me." He was prepared to go down fighting to protect the innocent girl. Nothing complicated about it- you defend those who cannot defend themselves. Just right is all.
"Malthus, I'll leave those two to you!"
