"No, not exactly." An Advanced Dodge Roll brought Malthus out of the way of the first strike, with him simply ducking the second and blocking the third by bringing up and crossing his daggers to catch the bat on them. "For example, if you were actually trying to kill me, I would be fighting back, and you haven't seen me fight with my weapons of choice yet, now have you?" With a mighty heave, he repelled the caught bat, hopefully sending Seifer back a bit before he returned with another combo. [hp=1/1]

"And then, I wouldn't be chatting with you if I was trying to kill you," Seifer added, being knocked back a couple of steps. But he returned in full force quickly, with a rough jab aimed for the stomach, followed by two diagonal swings making an X where they would have met over the other boy's chest. "And if I was trying to kill you, I wouldn't be Seifer Almasy!"

"Well, talking while fighting is a time honored tradition. Bantering is half the fun!" Malthus grinned, using an Advanced Dodge Roll to avoid the first strike, and hopping slightly, using his daggers to do another Aerial Dodge on both of the follow ups, landing slightly further away. "That said..." And his voice became somewhat serious. "I don't doubt there are people out there that will try to kill you. Those black creatures I saw before... Something is seriously wrong." "I've got no idea what you're talking about," Seifer replied to the 'black creatures' bit. "But of course there are wackos who'll try to kill people; I'm just sayin' that I'm not one of them," He finished, charging forward and unleashing a simple but efficient three strike combo, one for the head, one the chest, and one the knees. Well, he was definitely getting a good workout from this...

"Heh." Malthus used an Advanced Dodge Roll one more time to block the first one, flipping about the second one and spinning around to behind Seifer. He was getting somewhat dizzy, but the time it took for him to do that meant that Seifer's third blow had already missed him. He wasn't sure he could pull off any more fancy dodges anymore, though. He had to go back to purely blocking. [hp=1/1]

"What?! Do you REALLY think I'd kill somebody with my dreams?" Seifer snorted, a bit irritated. He was quick to follow up his missed strikes with another combo, two diagonal strikes aimed for the chest and an upward swipe making up this one. It looked like Malthus wouldn't be able to duck out of the way any more, which meant it was time to test his blocking skills.

"No. I think you might have to to keep someone from killing you!" Malthus shot back. A quick block with both daggers on the first attack, and a quick block on the secon- no! One of his daggers slipped out of his hands, jarred by the force. With an upward attack he couldn't block coming his way, he did the best he could with one dagger, blocking. They were in a blade lock, and if Seifer pushed it, he MIGHT make Malthus drop the second dagger, placing him in big trouble. [hp=1/1]

Seifer gave a little bit of a growl as the wood bat and the dagger came together into what was usually called a sword lock. A bat lock? It probably wouldn't have happened if he'd been using a proper weapon. Seifer put his strength into an upward heave, aiming to knock the dagger out of Malthus's hand.

"..." Malthus tried to hold on as long as he could, but he knew he couldn't hold it for longer. What ticked him off more was that Seifer seemed to be ignoring his very serious statement. Despite being part of banter, he'd actually meant a great deal of what he said when it came this last bit of the conversation. As the hilt of the dagger slipped out of his sweaty palm, and the bat moved upwards into the inevitable strike that would ends this match... his anger erupted.
He could feel it through his entire being, and everything seemed to slow down. He felt as though he had to keep blocking... "Don't just ignore me!" Malthus finally snapped, bringing his hand back into the blocking position... and that's when it happened.
A large eruption of orange light appeared in a vaguely straight shape, and formed into a strange weapon. It looked like a skeleton key. The teeth of the key, on the side that wasn't being used to block, were rays coming off of the sun that made up the tip of the sword-like object. Down the remainder of the blade was the Station Clocktower, until it stopped at the hilt. The hilt guards looked like train tracks, and off of the bottom of the weapon was a chain, ending in a round half-moon/half-sun charm.

Seifer blinked in surprise as what looked like a giant key appeared in Malthus's hands to block his wooden bat. Stunned, he dropped all pretense of a battle stance, returning to tapping his bat against his shoulder. "...Okay, I'll bite; What in the name a' Twilight Town is THAT?"

Malthus blinked, his anger temporarily forgotten to look at the weapon now in his right hand. "...I have no idea." He finally said. "Though judging from that mark on your bat, it's some kind of sword. Where it came from, I have no idea, what it is, I don't know either." He gave it an experimental twirl. "Hmm..." He got back into a battle stance. "You know. I rather like the feel of it!"

"Well, if it's a sword you've got there..." Seifer said, slipping his bat through the loop in his belt and drawing out the replica sword, the thin strip of metal on the edge of the blade glinting in the sunlight. "let's see what that key thing of yours can do," He finished, assuming his normal combat stance and darting forward with a quick four-strike combo; one vertical, one diagonal, one horizontal, and a second diagonal, aimed so as to be easily defended against. It was also notable that the way the strikes were aimed, it was very unlikely they would hit Malthus unless the boy threw himself into them.
"No worries, I'm not going to hit you with this. It's just better to test out your... whatever it is... against a sword instead of a bat," Seifer explained, waving it by with his free hand in a 'You know what I mean' gesture.

(A note; Seifer is aiming his attacks so they won't hit Malthus if his block is broken.)

Despite having been using daggers earlier, Malthus adapted well to his new weapon. With ease he blocked the strikes, a single horizontal block, then three diagonals to block and deflect the remaining attacks. "Heh. This thing seems made for me." He grinned. "I'd love to see what I could do with this if I wasn't slightly tired out from those dodges earlier." He was, of course, exaggerating his endurance; he was more tired than he made himself out to be.

"Well, if you feel like calling it a day, I did disarm you," Seifer said, pulling off a similar combo, but in reverse order. "If I were you, I'd be more worried about finding out what that thing's supposed to do. I mean, really, who needs a key THAT big?" He finished, stepping back a bit to give Malthus a chance to figure out whether he wanted to call it quits for now or not.

"Hah, like I would give up that easily." Malthus grinned again. "The rules were for you to hit me, not..." He punctuated his sentence with another few blocks on the first two parts of the combo. "...for you to disarm me alone. If I had to..." One more block. "...I could've used my throwing knives to continue, though they'd be less effective." He simply dodged the last one, though barely. He had no more fancy tricks. "Admittedly... this certainly has been an effective workout, and I need to figure out what a strange, unique weapon is doing appearing magically in my hands. Should we call it a draw, since I certainly can't avoid being hit much longer?"
