"Here it comes, Tidus!" Wakka yelled out as the jumped up as high as he could in the air, a sports ball held in both hands above his head. Before him was his opponent and his opponent's net, a small fishing net left floating open on the water. All he had to do was get it to hit that net...
Wakka threw as hard as he could hoping that by the time he landed back down in the knee-deep water they were playing in on the beach of their playground island that he'd have scored a goal in their little makeshift game. If not he'd have to quickly protect the net that was behind him.

"Not a chance Wakka!"
Countered a dirty blonde teen, angling his body to the trajectory of the ball. His arms opened wide as he prepared to catch the ball. Wakka had a pretty good throwing arm, so catching his shots took a good bit out of him. Though with his descent incoming, his opponent would need some defense.
"You're going down this time, Wakka!"
Tidus yelled as jumped high into the air (yay jump boost but within reasonable limits), he angled his dominant arm back. Then BAM! The ball was thrown, except this time at a curve heading towards Wakka's fishing net. However it was really a feint. This match was about stamina and if he could wear the older boy down a bit, he might be able to win this!

Wakka saw the ball being throw around the side. He knew a curve ball had to be coming. Tidus didn't have the same kind of throwing power that Wakka did but his control wasn't to be underestimated. The redhead was forced to run to the side through the water, draining his energy as he reached out wide with his left hand to catch the ball.
Wakka spun in the water with the ball and then forced it into his other hand, holding it with both as he faced Tidus. He smiled, knowingly. Using just one arm the boy threw the ball hard directly at Tidus, but it was descending too fast. The ball was going to hit the water and bounce, and if it bounced sharply enough Tidus might not be able to react to it.

Tidus wasn't averse to strategy, not when it came to sports or competition. Tiring out Wakka was the aim but the elder boy still had quite a bit more strength than him. His newest attack was descending fast. Thus Tidus backed off and splashed against the water. His form seemed to disappear momentarily as he put himself into position to block his net.
Wasn't a bad move, the ball bounced off the surface and went into the air. With it's slowed down acceleration, it was easier to grab and once again perform yet another curveball. This time to the far right of wakka

Wakka already felt that this was coming and was dashing back toward the center of his "field" so that he could get the next ball whichever way it curved. He sloshed through the water at top speed to get this new one, his right hand pushing it in to catch against his chest before coming to a stop.
Tidus' strategy was a good one. his weapon was that agility and control, but Wakka had his weapons too. The taller teen ran back toward the middle but this time also moved forward, closing a bit of the distance between the pair. His next throw was one-handed and came with a full turn before it's release. The ball went fast and hard right at Tidus' head, then Wakka backpedaled. Since Tidus had moved back for his last catch, if he was too close to the net and fumbled this one Wakka might score.

It was clever, that Wakka was good. He'd backed up, just how much was the older boy reading this game? No time to waste! Tidus jumped into the air, allowing his arms to craddle just as the ball would come into contact with his chest. The blow was hard, Tidus couldn't take much of those, maybe four if he pushed it. His form would come back down to the waters, creating quite the splash. He used this distraction as a means to get below.
When he re-emerged, he'd attempt to curve the ball once more. Except this time, the ball would hit the surface first. Upon doing so the ball would actually attempt to come back into Tidus' direction instead of pushing backwards. A tricky tactic, but this was DI's Ace Athlete!

Wakka's backpedaling payed off as he had just enough time to react to the ball's direction. The teen didn't have to rush quite as fast for this one and attempted to get it to simply come into his chest, but the seasoned teen athlete realized it was going to hit the water before he could reach it.
Tidus might spot the look of realization on Wakka's face as the redhead dived forward in a sudden burst, latching onto the ball before it could bounce and forcing underhanded a toss upward that would arc lazily back in Tidus' direction just before Wakka himself went into the seawater face-first.

The look of realization was donned in the form of the usual grin. Tidus knew he had this one, the surprise attack from Tidus meant the ball would come back to him. Easy to predict due to the laziness, it was more of a fumbled reaction than anything. Tidus would grasp the ball, since it lacked the usual power. Wakka went down face first into the sea water, whilst Tidus would curve that ball in the opposite direction of Wakka right towards his next.
If all went well there'd be a GOOOOAAAAAL! To which Tidus would declare:
"No way you can beat me, I'm DI's #1 Athlete."

Splash! went the water's surface as Wakka emerged, freshly soaked. He was rushing, but not toward the ball. In fact, he hadn't even checked for the ball since emerging. Instead the boy simply moved straight back toward his net without a second thought. That was the place he had to protect, his experience told him.
Once he was sure he was going the right away then he spared his eyes some movement. The ball was coming in wide again. He jumped toward the net's corner, trying to get a last bit of speed by going over the water instead of through it.
He didn't quite make it. Tidus' call sang out as Wakka hit the water again and the ball hit hsi net.

"Woah Wakka, you must be really off today." Tidus joked as he stood up awaiting Wakka to get the ball. They could afford quite a bit of rounds. Nobody in the circle had any specific plans today. Sora was probably doing his own thing, as were the rest. So on slow days like today, Tidus and Wakka played their "ball game" as Selphie would put it. Truth was they hadn't really gotten a name for it. Heck the rules were still being figured out for the most part. Right now it was more of a soccer meets water type of afair.
"Well, I guess this makes up for him beating me at fishing the other day. Ugh I'm still not at Rikku's level yet."

"Don't get too cocky, Tidus," Wakka said sounding amused as he wiped all of the water off of his face before retrieving the ball and then spreading his net back out to its proper width again. The teen turned and started to spin the ball between his hands as he got back into position. "Experience counts, you know?"
With just a smile the redhead tossed the ball a little in front of himself, pulled his right leg out of the water and kicked it in a high arc toward Tidus.

"Uh-huh!" Tidus said flatly as he jumped into the air. The arc would be met by his foot aiming to axe-kick it downwards and over Wakka's current position. Depending on wakka's movement, it would either splash or be caught a little harder than Tidus' normal affair. The move still wasn't perfect though. His own body flipping to come back down. It'd result in a splash around his net, his own eyes well off the prize so to speak.

Wakka was surprised by the younger athlete's movements and nearly caught off-guard. One other advantage that he had over Tidus though was a sturdier build. Even when the "ace" changed things up and used a power play against him Wakka could take it better than he could.
In this particular instance Wakka had almost no time to react properly to the ball the way he usually did. Instead he pulled a few memories of volleyball out of his mind and put his arms together out in front of himself, moving to bounce the ball off of them and back right over Tidus' head towards his net without having to take time to catch it himself either.

Tidus' flashy move was costly, worse yet it was an experimental move. He had lots more to work on if he wanted to make it apart of his arsenal. Still, as he came down with a splash, that ball was going overhead. That was when the boy leaped back out of the water, performing a backflip in the direction of the net. It was the same move but in reverse.
"Tch..."
Tidus mentally noted as his legs missed the ball barely. It resulted in him flipping over the net and the ball hitting it. As for Tidus, he'd no sooner meet the water again. Once he emerged, he'd fix his net and grasp the ball.
"You're definitely right about experience Wakka. Still..."
He spun the ball around his index finger before jumping.
"Talent separates you from the pack!"
The low rising bounce infront of Tidus was used as a splash/distraction. The real course was that he'd be sending that ball back down even harder to create another splash, as well as bounce effect. If all went well, it'd be heading over Wakka's head and towards that net.

'You sure do stand out,' Wakka thought with pride as Tidus returned the ball to him with a trick shot right off the bat. No warming up the round this time; he was going for the kill.
In order to respond to the threat Wakka knelt down and placed both arms in the water, then pushed forward to cause a large amount of it to flow and splash into the area where Tidus' ball was aiming to bounce. The result didn't stop the ball, but the change in conditions affected it just as the water-loving redhead expected it to. The deadly bounce over his head and into the net was turned into a slow, weakened arch right into his waiting hands.
"Don't forget that the pack you're separating from has a leader," he said, smiling with his usual toothy grin.
