Once more Wakka hustled. Even Tidus would be able to tell that the athlete's breathing was getting heavier than it would normally be now, and knowing how to breathe was one of Wakka's specialties(One that he'd helped Tidus learn as well, in fact). With this sign of weakness the real play must have been coming. Something would change for sure.
In fact, something did change. Wakka still caught the ball in a spin move that returned it with as much of the original momentum as he could muster, but it was kept closer to his body this time unlike the others and thrust back with both arms again like only the first one had been. The real change however was Wakka's aim.
The ball hurtled straight at Tidus' current position, looking to fall into the net right behind him, but it would have to go through him to do so. Of course, Tidus also had less room to charge up his body's momentum with for the counter-attack.

With Wakka's breathing becoming noticeably harder, it meant the games were over and real plays would begin. His well placed aim to be directly at Tidus meant that he was preparing to end this last skirmish. So when the ball was coming back into Tidus court, he did something unusual. His knees bent and he thrusted himself towards the ball. His form emerging with water everywhere as he did. His right knee coming up carefully to off tilt the ball. It'd mean that the ball would go high into the sky, Tidus upper body leaning back a bit to avoid the swerve upwards. As he'd splash down, somewhat awkwardly. Of course this was when the power play began.
He didn't take much pause, instead he winded up his body to leap upwards once more, utilizing a jump boost. The Sea water coming up with his body like a dolphin before flipping into an axe kick which would send the ball right back at Wakka directly, the momentum of gravity also playing into it.

Slam!
The ball was caught. Not slung or returned. Just caught. It was cradled into Wakka's chest with both of his arms wrapped around it after he had received the axe kick shot head-on, stepping back as he did so to prevent the ball from flying away. Wakka's head was hugn down over ball, his expression invisisble.
The ever-moving action was brought to a complete halt and the rhythm they had built up to get this far and prepare their final Match Point moves was completely cut off, all thanks to Wakka not handling Tidus' highly skilled return well.

Tidus of course was back in position and relatively centre. He looked at Wakka as his head was held low. Eyebrow raised in interest, Tidus decided to try a light hearted approach.
"Come on, Wakka. Don't tell me you're giving up already."
Tidus voice mocked and immitated the elder white haired teen fairly well. He held a smile on his visage. His form seemingly relaxed as he waited to see if Wakka was okay. Even though competition got fierce, well-being was always more important.

After he heard Tidus' taunt Wakka's head sprang back up, white teeth clearly visible to see. Who was it that would be the most affected by a sudden change in rhythm? The power player, or the finesse player? Wakka was betting everything on this one shot.
"Show me your stuff!" Wakka declared, a common taunt. It was meant to let Tidus know that the real match point was coming right now, whether it be his or the opponent's. Tidus' athletic instincts would surge and his adrenaline pump for action, but that's just what Wakka wanted. If he could return this then Wakka wanted Tidus' best in return.
[Basic Battlecry: Tidus]
Wakka jumped up out of the water. it wasn't as high as Tidus could go but he did get his feet out of the drink. With the ball in both hands he pulled it back over his head and used all the strength he had left to snipe it down hard in a straight line toward the corner of Tidus' net, to the younger player's right. It was Wakka's best move: The Power Shot.

"Heh, you're going down!"
Tidus retaliated with his own common taunt. He knew Wakka wouldn't be out by that move but the real bet was in this match winning move. Tidus had played the game as best he could, conserving his stamina in order to utilize all his finesse. The change of momentum, could it really be a disadvantage for the more agile of the duo?
That was a question Tidus wanted to challenge head on. This move wasn't going to be like the others. The time to get the built momentum might mean the speed of Wakka's power shot would prevail. Instead he had to rely on a different trick. His eyes caught where Wakka was intending to him, his body taking off quickly. Utilizing his Basic Parkour, it was easier for him to move through the water in this instance.
Everything was in the subtle timing, His Flip Attack Performed nigh instantaneously as the ball came intowards his net. His feet attempting to slam into that ball for a double axe style power, utilizing the momentum of his whole body in motion to reverse it back to Wakka's net.
Would he be successful?

With the speed at which the ball was going and the height of his jump Wakka wasn't able to move until much too late. By the time he landed Tidus had already performed a forward somersault in order to bat the ball with both of his feet. Due to the strength behind the ball that he was attacking it was unlikely that Tidus would have a clean landing, but that would be a small price to pay.
Wakka tried to jump desperately for the ball but it was too little too late. He fell under the surface of the seawater and the ball fell into the area of the fishing net.

Due to the power of the shot, Tidus sommersault was largely interupted. His landing far from perfect actually barely almost had him land head first in. Instead he was able to hand-stand it partialy, which helped him to land on his butt as opposed to his usual perfect flip. Still, small price to pay indeed for as he looked towards Wakka's net, Tidus inhaled deeply.
"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!"
He would bellow from deep within his chest. He couldn't help but pump his fist into the air. Vigour seemingly filling his form. It's like he said, talent seperates you from the pack, but really the victory was just a stepping stone. He needed to be able to best Riku, that's what counted. Yes his eyes focused intently on the path of the white-haired teen. His back was far, but as he got up and headed over to Wakka (in order to offer him a smug but helping hand), his hues seemed distant. He could visualize him chasing after Riku's back.

Wakka coughed a few times as he knelt down on his hands and knees in the water, his face not far from the salty liquid itself. He wasn't laughing as much because of the water he had gotten into his mouth, though, as he was for trying to laugh while it was there. His smiling face turned and looked up as Tidus came over to offer his "help". With an equally smug look Wakka pushed up off his hands and allowed Tidus the gesture as he got back to his feet.
"Not bad, Tidus."

"Thanks, Wakka." Tidus said, he truly had enjoyed himself today. More importantly, he felt that his skills were growing, he was becoming a better man everyday. Though he couldn't help but wonder aloud.
"Think I'll be able to beat Riku one-on-one in a spar?"
He moved both his hands behind his head, akin to Sora as he waded through the water a bit. With no sine of Riku or Sora in-sight, he couldn't help but grin.

"Maybe if he ties one hand behind his back," Wakka answered with a calm, relaxed tone. He was getting his breath back again. Fast recovery was also a benefit of Wakka's stamina. He had built it up a lot in favour of the speed and agility that Tidus was proud of
"Think we might be able to beat him two on one yet?" Wakka asked back, smiling widely as he did, knowing full well the truthful answer.

"Nah but I'm up for trying anyway." Tidus grinned back, the prospect of challenging Riku two on one, was quite persuasive. He certainly felt the desire to cut loose. It'd probably be awhile yet before they could really take him. That didn't mean they wouldn't get the experience from their loss.
So with that, Tidus went to take down his net. They should check back on the island to see if everyone else had gotten round or not. That match with Riku might just happen sooner than they thought.

Wakka also moved to collect his netting, though first he would pick up the ball he had failed to stop and tossed it off to the side. It would float in the water next to him as he folded up the mesh into a thicker collection and was able to sling it over his right shoulder. Once that was done he'd grab the ball and hold it under his left arm.
"Come on, let's go dry off," he said. Playing in the water was more fun, but he would enjoy getting out of his wet trunks and putting his dry clothes back on.

The day in the water seemed to be subsiding but their adventure far off. With the net wrapped up, the duo was ready to get back onto dry land. Their usual garb awaited them, as did Tidus' trusty staff. Yeah he was looking forward to it clasped behind his back. It made him feel confident, as if he could beat Riku right at that moment (not that it was likely).
"So Wakka, what's up next? If we want to beat Riku, maybe we should actually train. I bet Riku comes to the island alone sometimes to do just that."
He could barely hide the enthusiasm behind his words, not that he was a fan of training (in that sense) so much, but they just had an awesome work-out session. Perhaps the main reason both athletes were behind in the usual sparing game was because their efforts were spent on sports more so than combat.

"You know I don't really care that much abotu fighting," Wakka answered matter-of-factly. Sora and Riku had wooden toy swords and Tidus his staff, but Wakka just sued his favourite Sports Ball whenever he played the fighting game. Actually, Selphie just tried to use her jump-rope as a weapon, so he was never quite sure how serious she was about it. She seemed to take it a lot worse than he did when he lost. He still didn't like losing of course, no matter what it was in. He wouldn't forget Tidus beating him today for a while.
"Why don't you help me convince Riku to join some teams at school next year. Then maybe he'll practice for those and lose his edge so you can finally beat him."
Wakka laughed at the idea of Riku losing his edge.
