Seifer was more or less just waiting for something to happen. He was leaning against one of the pillars outside Sunset Station with his arms crossed, looking off at the perpetual sunset with a bit of a frown. Where had those monsters in the sewer come from? They were going to be a big problem if they decided to attack; he didn't think there were many people around who could fight off things like that. They'd almost taken him down, and he was one of the best Strugglers in the town. He closed his eyes in continued thought, not really caring if anyone thought he'd dozed off standing there.

Nanette didn't see Seifer in her mental daze, even bumping into the boy as she shuffled aimlessly into the train station.
Her half-open eyes seemed... faint, in the wake of whatever kept her mind occupied just now, as she pushed forward munny to the teller for the Southbound Train ticket.

Seifer raised an eyebrow as the girl passed him, gaining his attention by bumping into him. She was in a daze again. No surprise. Today looked different, though. Southbound wasn't a normal route for a kid. "Where ya goin'? Southbound isn't a normal route for people our age."

Nanette jerked up at the sound of Seifer's voice, completely forgetting the stationmaster pushing the ticket out from under the teller window.
Her jaw moved before sound came out. She was grasping for a reply-- Seifer was right on the money, Southbound was mainly a business district.
"I..." Nanette started, her eyes looking anywhere and everywhere save Seifer.
Her eyes caught sight of the ticket.
Then her hand caught hold of the ticket.
"I... gotta go," Nanette blurted out, dashing for the trainyard.

But Nanette wasn't quite fast enough. Seifer caught up quickly, grabbing her arm and yanking her to a stop before she got too far in, or onto a tram. "You're not going yet. You've still got something of mine, and there's no chance it's in the business district. Want to tell me what's going on before you disappear? I'm about tired of people I know vanishing without saying goodbye."

[ Burn, Pryth. Buuuuuuuuuuuuurn. =D ]
Nanette instinctively jerked away from Seifer's grab-- I mean, who enjoys being grabbed?-- to little avail. Seifer's grip was... Seifer's grip.
"It's--" she stuttered, "It's kinda complicated, and-- and that train leaves soon, so--"
Nanette tried again to jerk out of Seifer's reach.
She was trying-- deliberately-- to avoid giving Seifer a straight answer. She didn't seem to have Seifer's wooden bat on her at the moment though. (It doesn't exactly fit into her pocket, does it?

"Then get a refund. Plenty of trains go southbound during a day," Seifer said, not releasing Nanette. It was for her own safety, really; a kid running around in the business district would just get hurt or end up lost, and he wasn't about to let that happen to somebody if he could help it. "You never know. The local bully might be willing to give you a hand if you tell him what's wrong."

Nanette was running out of patience. And time, she realized as she stopped struggling.
"A hand with what--" she blurted out, "beating up my dad?!"
Nanette froze.
She hadn't meant to say that.

Seifer raised an eyebrow. That was certainly unexpected. "Care to explain that so I don't get the wrong impression? That's why you were asking me how to fight the other day, isn't it?"

Nanette couldn't think of too many ways to reply. And the train was set to leave far too soon. The brown-haired girl gritted her teeth as she threw her fist for the bully's chin. [ Unarmed Combat Trainee is in use! ]She needed to move first, apologize later...! The train whistle was already blowing, the stationmaster already looked like he was going to intervene-- [hp=34/34]

Seifer didn't release her, however; he just bore with it.
And grabbed her other hand so she couldn't slug him again. He was fairly used to such, but he didn't exactly want to end up getting a broken jaw because he didn't keep her from attacking him. "Nanette, calm down," Seifer said, his voice oddly controlled for having just been hit square in the chin. This wasn't something he could fix with his usual tactics, and being a hero was as much about helping others as it was fighting monsters. "Just tell me what happened; I want to help, and I can't exactly do that if I don't know what's going on."
((I know he took the damage, but my head hurts a bit too much to do the calculating right now. I'll add it in later.))

And then the Stationmaster put his hands on both of the kids' shoulders.
"Alright, you two hooligans," the bushy stationmaster said, clearly not recognizing (or caring?) about Seifer's reputation, "let's get you back to the office so we can call you parents."
Nanette immediately made to interrupt the man when the train whistle behind her blew.
She'd missed her train. She had a look in her eyes that said she felt like punching Seifer again.
[ To the stationmaster's back room? ]

'So what was it this time?' Seifer's parents would probably asked. This wasn't the first time he'd been in a situation like this because of attempting to help, and he probably wouldn't get in to too much trouble for it. "You could've avoided this if you'd just told me what was wrong. You feel like talking now, or you gonna hit me again?" Seifer asked, looking at Nanette. They'd been escorted into a back room and set far apart, Seifer leaning against one wall while Nanette was on the other. The stationmaster had gone to call their parents, so for the moment they were alone. And probably not supposed to be chatting, but since when had Seifer cooperated with anything he didn't want to?

Nanette twisted her head away from Seifer, her arms crossed instinctively as the brown-haired girl raised her chin towards... well, towards the wall.
Her hands were clenched in tight little fists.
And her lip was bitten in utter silence.
"...I'd hit you again if the stationmaster wasn't here."

"If that's your way of displaying affection, I don't think you'll be finding a boyfriend any time soon," Seifer quipped, smirking. He did care, just a little bit. He'd helped her out once, and she looked like she needed help again. Why stop with a crash course in self defense. "I'm not going to let up until you tell me, you know."
