A Long and Tedious Journey Awaits

Name: Payn
Race: Kakodaimone (Greek demons)
Age: 80ish as humans count the calendar, practically a newborn for demons though
Gender: Male
Homeworld: Mount Olympus
Your Decisions Will Decide the Outcome of the Universe

Appearance: Born on the field of battle, far before , Payn knows nothing except for death. His ‘human’ form is therefore both appropriate and utterly useless: Payn takes the appearance of corpses. Usually ashen, often zombie-like, he doesn’t usually remember what he’s supposed to look like and changes appearance fairly often with skin going from an unhealthy ashy complexion to an infectious, gangrenous hue. Unfortunately, nothing quite stands out like a dead man walking, so it really doesn’t matter unless he happens to walk onto an army of undead (which happens more often than one might think what with cursed Aztec gold, skeletons stealing odd-and-end religious ceremonies and so on).
Some things that are kept constant, however, include a lack of lips and occasionally cheeks, leaving exposed sharp, bloody canines. His eyeballs are also bloodshot and have red irises. He also seems to have developed a morbid appreciation for veins and they tend to stand out in his humanoid form. Armor made from the skin or bones of other mortals also make frequent appearances on his person. The male forms he takes tend to be huge and muscular standing at over six feet and two hundred pounds, occasionally over seven feet but never more. His true form, the one that makes its appearance when he returns to the Underworld however, has more to do with his parentage that has bits of titan in it as well as the usual assortment of keres and limos and resembles a gigantic rock statue, although not quite as large as an actual rock titan it is nonetheless quite something.
It is to Payn’s eternal distress however that his human form seems to creep mortals out more than his true appearance which although frightening, tends to make mortals want to fight him. The true appearance, however, has the advantage of being a true warform; bred and suited towards the eternal wars of the Underworld. Standing at a towering height of over sixteen feet, Payn looks like hewed stone given life. Each step makes the ground tremble and each errant blow has the force of mountains behind it. Unfortunately, outside of the Underworld, this form is quite difficult to maintain as it is far too cold for the stuff that is her blood to run hot enough to animate his limbs and it sees only very limited use.
Personality:•General Persona: From a certain point of view, Payn is extremely innocent. He is not purposefully cruel, merely exceedingly talented at what he was born to do: spread death, destruction and chaos. As a war demon, he could probably be considered one of the smartest examples of his breed, unfortunately, a lack of ambition, a tendency towards indiscriminate slaughter during combat and an absolutely ludicrous human form with zero non-combat purposes have mostly rendered the issue of advancement moot. He is also exceedingly gullible by demon standards but unfortunately for those who would seek to manipulate him, his A-plan for any situation is kill everything that confuses him. In his defense, it’s worked out so far.
Secretly, he’s a bit of a romantic at heart. Underworld romance being what it is, it’s not quite the same thing as mortal romance but hey, it’s one of his few weaknesses. Not that terrible of a weakness seeing as he considers most forms of battle quite romantic, but take what you can. And for a given value of honor, Payn can also be remarkably honourable: it’s not the same as Greek honor: if Payn does not lie it is mostly because it does not occur to him to do so; if he keeps his word it is because any other course of action is literally unimaginable. Well… perhaps not quite as extreme as that, but fairly close.
Also, Payn has a ridiculous sweet tooth.
•Inner Thought Process: Payn tends to think things through by-the-demon-book which means he’s straightforward and admirably simple in his outlook on life. Concepts of good and evil are largely foreign to him and he will happily do one or the other if given proper motivation. If one might try to boil him down to his component psychic influences he is largely a demon that is lead by a slew of goals. The carrot-and-stick approach works quite well on him. Nonetheless, his ability to appreciate his goals and distinguish between which are ‘better’ and ‘worse’ has lent a complexity to his thought process that didn’t exist before.
•Fears: There is little Payn fears that comes from mortal sources. However, a trick played on him by a witch during his extreme youth has made him at loathe to offer up his true name anyone knowing that through using it they can take away his free will. While generally they do not exploit him much beyond what he usually does (i.e. spread death and destruction and so on) it is an uncomfortable feeling to be aware of doing things yet not consciously able to change them.
•Pleasures: Anything sweet. Cookies, for instance.
•Quirks: From a mortal standpoint his sense of aesthetics is way, way off.But With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

But Your History Decides Your Version of "Responsibility"
History:
Day 1
Was summoned by mortal sorcerer today. First time in mortal plane.
Last memory was of glorious battlefield. Lots of death and dying. Had eaten fill when hit by something. Probably a spear. Lost a lot of blood.
(Ha. Still managed to bite off head)
Fell asleep. Unusual. At time, thought self was dying. Somewhat annoyed. Human form so fragile.
When open eyes, was covered in dirty rags that held bits that were supposed to be inside, inside. Sorcerer dead. Cannot return home. Tiny mortal sitting on chest. Tiny mortal said it had fixed demonkin. Claimed that demonkin now owed it a boon.
Tiny mortal not even wearing metal clothes! Suspect that tiny mortal too tiny for metal clothes to fit.
Very embarrassing. Do not think mortal very bright. But mortal made self swear on Name and Soul and Ending Blight; on Rock and Stone and Silver. Still do not think mortal very bright. But boon is boon and swearing is swearing.
Something odd about mortal. Suspect it is not entirely mortal.
Day 3
Discovered huge jewel in the sky yesterday. Hard to spot past all the green things above, but demons have good eyes. Sought and received permission from mortal to go scout.
Climbed the very tallest plant-thing but jewel still out of reach. Very shiny. Wished very much to keep it. From ground, mortal mentioned that staring too long at sun jewel would make self go blind.
…mortal right.
…
Could see again today. Very happy. Flora died for a couple of meters. A feather mortal dropped out of a tree and split open its fool head. Almost reminded self of home. Mortal said to stop doing that.
Not doing it on purpose. Honest.
Tried not to look at sun jewel even if it is very pretty.
Watched mortal do mortal-y stuff. Not sure how mortals are still alive when most of their actions serve no purpose. Suggested that if mortal wished to remain properly hygienic, it should bathe in the blood of its enemies. Much more likely to develop blood magic like that.
Mortal snorted and told self to go prepare camp.
Saw moon jewel while guarding camp. Only small sliver. Very different from Sun jewel. Stared at it until it went away. Took off dirty rags: wound not so bad, already mostly healed.
Counted star jewels until mortal woke up.
Day 4
Suspect mortal soft in the head. Maybe dropped on it several times when even tinier.
Mortal fussed over wound. Said air not good for wound. All sorts of things would be attracted to it. Pretty sure that demon blood bad for mortal things, but owe mortal boon, not going to argue.
Caught a small mortal creature with big long ears and very soft fur.
Mortal burned it over a fire.
Such a waste!
Day 5
Bored.
Moon jewel did not appear.
Day 6
Still bored.
Moon jewel still did not appear.
Odd feeling in chest. Do not know what it is.
Day 7
Went blind again.
Can write without seeing! Is learning all sorts of useless things.
Day 8
Mortal mentioned its name today. Called itself ‘Asala.’
Suspect some sort of trap. Names precious, precious things. Told mortal to call demonkin ‘Payn.’
Not true, but not false either.
Day 9
Was attacked today.
Asala-mortal called attackers ‘goddamn human bastards’ and other complimentary things. Humans called Asala-mortal ‘little knife-eared slut.’ Was wondering if this were courtship ritual. Very romantic. May have mentioned this out loud.
Human mortals said that Asala-mortal ‘consorting with demon.’ Not true, but truth very embarrassing. Could not say that owed mortal a boon. Kept mouth shut.
Human mortals said many other complimentary things.
Asala-mortal got very red in the face and told Payn to go squish humans. Was a little disappointed, but Payn never say no to more fighting.
Turned into true form and squished humans. Very boring. Humans not very good fighters. Suspect that Asala not engage in courtship ritual because humans so weak. Had bits of human stuck between toes and was itchy. Forced to use water to get it out. Humans not have as much blood as seem to. Disappointing.
Asala-mortal went to sleep right in the middle of all the bodies. Payn approve but not sure what to do. Count star jewels while waiting for Asala-mortal to wake up.
Day 10
Thought all mortals very small. Very impressed at how small Asala-mortal is when sleeping. Asala-mortal teeny-tiny. Asala-mortal did not seem to be scared to see Payn true form when waking up. Seemed a little mixed up, though.
Offered bodies to Payn for eating (precise words: get rid of), but bodies already full of death stillness. Cracked open some skulls for the brains, but other than that, was fine with leaving them there.
Asala-mortal made funny noises and lost some of her insides through her mouth. Very odd. Did not think mortal lifespans were that short. Did not think they could turn so green either. Mortal magic?
Asala-mortal wanted to walk lots today. Did not even stop to eat or bathe. Maybe looking for a place to die. Heard that some mortals do that.
Hope she says boon soon. And that boon not be too guard corpse until it turns to dust. Corpse turning into dust takes long time.
Day 11
Asala-mortal not dying.
Very disappointed.
Day 12
Attacked by more humans today.
Asala-mortal told them to go away. Long talky-talks. Did not listen to most of it. Mortals did not engage in courtship rituals. Instead, lots of talk about ‘justice’ and ‘demons’ and blah blah. Human mortals still attacked. Asala-mortal told Payn not to kill them, just hurt them.
Payn approve. Humans living in agony for several days a good idea. Asala-mortal needs to be more creative like that. Ripped off a few arms and ate them in front of their owners. Very satisfying.
Asala-mortal went to sleep again.
Suspect Asala-mortal is dying.
Day 13
Asala-mortal woke up. Started making water from eyes.
Funny feeling in stomach. Suspect that attackers yesterday were god-touched. Bad for digestion.
Asala-mortal said to burn bodies.
Burned the bodies.
Walked until sun jewel hit horizon. Sky turn red like blood. Very pretty. Asala-mortal looking very pale and fell asleep again.
Day 14
Asala-mortal did not wake up. Suspect death soon.
Day 15
Boooored.
Poked Asala-mortal with stick. Asala-mortal still not waking up. Wonder what to do if Asala-mortal comes back as ghost. Probably still have to follow it around.
Bless.
Day 16
Old smelly, mortal came by. Could not tell if god-touched or human. Offered to buy Asala-mortal.
Considered his offer. Suspected that owner of Asala-mortal would also own demon who owns Asala-mortal a boon. Politely refused offer. Also mentioned that Asala-mortal proably dying, not very good purchase. Also mention Asala-mortal very tiny and bony. Not good for eating either.
Old mortal said is practitioner of necromancy. Almost-dead body good for research. Payn did not think old mortal is necromancer: old mortal not smell like death. Payn had to bite off head just to check. Taste not so good. Very stringy.
Found lots of shiny things in pockets. Very pretty. Not sure what to do with them but dead mortal certainly not be needing them.
In end, not sure if necromancer or not.
Burn body.
Day 17
Asala-mortal woke.
Bless.
Asala-mortal made more water from eyes. Told Payn to stop killing. Payn ask if that is Asala-mortal’s boon.
(Hope not. Very difficult boon.)
Asala-mortal became very quiet. Said ‘please?’ in small voice.
Payn pat Asala-mortal on head. Asala-mortal so very silly. If want two boons, Asala-mortal need to save Payn two times and Payn not certain if better to be alive than to owe silly little mortal two boons even if silly little mortal attract lots of fighting.
Payn feeling generous today, give Asala-mortal a shiny.
Day 18
Arrive at village made only of scantily-dressed women and men with goat feet. Felt a bit like home except more musical.
Asala-mortal told Payn to transform into something ‘not ugly’. Payn wonder what ‘not ugly’ is, and Asala-mortal reminded Payn of long-eared mortal with fur. Payn think that such a small mortal would be hard, but it turn out it is not so hard.
Asala-mortal carry Payn into village.
Day 19
Have discovered cookies.
Strongly considered killing everything in village to get more. Asala-mortal said no, if Payn kill all mortals, after cookies are finished, no more cookies.
Asala-mortal make good point. Wonder how to get more cookies without making cookie-making people die. Perhaps just kill a few mortals, take their shinies, and trade for cookies?
Asala-mortal said must buy cookies. Legally. Very distressing. Rabbit-mortals not get many jobs.
Asala-mortal mention that Asala-mortal know how to make cookies. Considered merits of offering Asala-mortal another boon in trade for many, many cookies.
Day 20
Asala-mortal offered Payn deal: for every day no killing, Payn gets half a cookie.
Payn make counter-offer: five cookies!
Asala-mortal say two.
Agree at three cookies a day. Payn is very good at merchant-ing.
Day 21
Cookies!
Day 28
There were dark little things in today’s cookies. Asala-mortal called it chocolate.
Suspect ‘chocolate’ is magic. Cannot possibly taste this good naturally.
Day 38
Smelled human-mortals. Not like village-mortals. Village-mortals always smell like dirt and clinging green things. Human-mortals smell like stone and iron.
Didn’t see any. And Asala-mortal said not to kill.
Got three cookies today. Yay!
Day 42
Human mortals came today. Nymph and Satyr-mortals did a lot of screaming. Some blamed Asala-mortal for leading them here. Was hoping for cookies, so did not attack human-mortals, even if one of them looked very strong.
Maybe should start saving cookies? So that when really want to fight, still have some cookies to eat later.
Something to think of.
Asala-mortal made more water from eyes. Said she ‘didn’t mean it.’ Wanted to know what to do. Payn just warrior, and demon warrior at that. Told Asala-mortal to give Payn cookies. Asala-mortal laughed but was a laugh that did not want to laugh.
Said she was trading in boon.
“Protect village from humans.”
Day 43
Boon gone.
Found Asala-mortal. Asala-mortal dead. Village-mortals tried to chase Payn away. Payn not feel so good. Not sure why Asala-mortal all small and burnt. Asala-mortal is tiny but not clumsy. Would not have fallen into fire pit and be covered by dirt while Payn not looking.
Went back to true form without noticing. Villagers cannot chase Payn away while in True form. Village-mortals too weak.
Village-villagers said it was Payn’s fault. Payn did not understand. Still want to know why Asala-mortal dead.
Village-villagers said something about demons and rituals and perversion and war. Payn not very bright, but understand that village-mortals killed Asala-mortal.
Payn remember boon. Boon said to protect village from humans.
Never said to protect village from Payn.
