Carried from the sea, the wind soared over and through the island, passing through all the familiar places. The beach, the scaffolding, the secret place, the shack, the bridge...
It was a normal day, with the children playing and arguing alternatively, as children will do. The sun shone bright, the waves rippled and shifted, the birds sang, the grass rustled in the wind.
He'd seen it all. Countless upon countless times. He was sick of it.
Riku sat on top of the bending palm tree, his favorite spot since childhood. He looked out at the endless rolling tides of blue, reaching to the horizon and, he could only guess, beyond. For the umpteenth time, he wondered what was out there, beyond this seemingly endless ocean.
The islands were beautiful, and he had good, honest friends. So, what did he have to complain about?
Because he was meant for something more. He knew it. He was the fastest, and the strongest, of the children on Destiny Islands, and as a result, the biggest ideas. He couldn't understand how someone like him could be fated to spend his entire life locked away on these islands where nothing changed.
Then his thoughts turned again to friends and family, and he chided himself. Was he ungrateful to want more after he had so much? It would seem that way...
Speaking of friends, he could hear yelling from behind him. Turning his head, he saw Tidus rushing at him, staff upraised, yelling out some sort of warcry. An amused smile appeared on Riku's face as he casually turned his body about, sliding off the palm tree.
"Surprise, Riku! Yaaaaaah-Oof!"
As the red pole came crashing towards him, all he had to do was lean his body back slightly, letting the staff thunk uselessly against the tree. Laughing out loud, Riku dealt his friend a "friendly" blow to the side of the head, sending him off balance.
"Owww.." Rubbing the spot, Tidus grinned unashamedly. "Thought I'd get you off guard without your sword."
Riku returned the grin, giving a cocky laugh. "How did you expect to catch me off guard while you were screaming loud enough to wake Sora?"
The silver haired youth gestured at his unprotected body. "Come on, give it another shot, if you're such a tough guy."
Spurred on by his taunting nature, Tidus came at him with another blow, yelling out. Unfortunately for the short sighted youth, Riku always had his sword near by. He had left it leaning on the other side of the palm tree, close at hand. Now, he calmly reached over, grabbed it, and thwacked Tidus' pole straight out of his hand before hitting him in the stomach with the wooden "blade".
Tidus doubled over, groaning. Someone abashed, Riku leaned down, helping his friend up. "Should have known you wouldn't have been able to take my best shot. Come on, up and at em. Let's see if we can find you a potion."
The blonde youth chuckled mirthlessly. "At this rate I'm never going to beat you. You're really something else, Riku.."
Riku laughed with him, but there was no shortage of mirth in his. "You've got that right!"
