"What?" Wakka asked, eyes filled with surprise. he was so shocked, in fact, that the teen almost fell off of their raised platform next to the docks right back to the bottom of the ladder on the sandy beach below. All he had wanted was to borrow Selphie's jump rope.
"Selphie, strength training like that isn't for girls. You don't need it just to help in the big game." the teen tried to explain, referring to the big ball game all the kids on the island played at the end of summer to celebrate the end of the season. At least, he assumed that was why she had asked.

Selphie frowned at her friend; just because she was a girl didn't mean she couldn't fight like a boy. And it wasn't just because she wanted to help. She was the youngest and always seemed to be the weakest as well. She sometimes felt left out of things, ya know? She loved hanging out with her friends, which were mind you all boys. But, it wasn't like she was really one of the girls, though she did dress like one and sometimes was one. But, it didn't mean that she couldn't be one of the boys.
She gave Wakka a sort of glare and began to whine, "Buut..Wakka, it's not just about the big game!" She folded her arms across her chest, "Pleaassee, Wakka!" she whined and begged. Not that she would stoop so low as to beg like a dog. But, it sometimes worked into her getting her way.
"Its just..I feel weaker than you and Sora and Riku and even Tidus!" she began to explain to her older friend, "And, and..it's not just because I'm a girl. Its just you and Tidus have been training and I've even seen Sora training too, I just feel I just sit around all day.."

Wakka reached to the back of his head and scratched at his hair, nervously. What did you say to a young woman when she got a stubborn idea in her head like this? That wasn't this boy's area of expertise(Probably not any boy's).
"But Selphie, you're already one of the toughest girls on the island. I still remember that time you knocked me between the eyes with that jump rope of your's," the teen said, then laughed as he moved his hand to rub the bridge of his nose at the memory. She was always willing to join in the boys' fighting games, but why would she want to make herself stronger?

Toughest girls in the island? Psh, she wanted to be one of the toughest guys on the island. Tomboy side of her taking over. She wanted to be up there with Tidus or even Wakka. So she would continue to plead with Wakka, "Please, Wakka?" her eyes going big as she pleaded, folding her hands in front of her. Leaning towards Wakka, eyes going all googily eyed.
"Just even a little, to get me started?" she asked. She didn't really know how to train by herself and usually if she did, she didn't stay focused on that for long. She tilted her head as she peered over at Wakka.

Wakka cringed a little. He wasn't good at saying no to Selphie's pleading look. The older teen couldn't help but think maybe they should have gotten another girl into their little circle of friends. Then maybe Selphie wouldn't be as focused on trying to be one of the guys.
"Well... all right," he conceded. "But we'll have to be careful. You don't want to end up but big arms or anything, ya?"

"Aw, Wakka I won't end up like that...like ever!" she said to him, smiling some now. She was glad he agreed; she would still pester him about it if he didn't, so either way she would probably get him to train her.
"So...since you're really good at this training thing, I'll let you decide on how you train me.." she said to him. Yeah, her pleading and planning for him to train her went as far as asking. She didn't know much about training but she was imagining now that her arms, legs and body would ache for awhile. One thing she knew was that it only hurt for awhile cause your body and muscles were getting used to it.

"All right, but before we begin... can I borrow your jump rope or not?"
Wakka smiled. That hsd been what he was asking Selphie when she loosed this surprised upon him. She might need strength training but Wakka still needed to do his own as well. Wouldn't it be embarrassing if Selphie suddenly surpassed him in physical prowess one day? Tidus would never let him hear the end of it for sure.

"Oh! Sure sure.." the young bubbly girl said as she handed her friend her jump rope. She wasn't really sure what he needed it for but she would let him use it as long as he gave it back. If Selphie didn't get it back, she didn't know how she would go on. She was like really attached to that darn jump rope of hers. It was sort of like a security blanket; in this case it actually did sort of protect her cause she could use it as a sort of whip when she and the gang play fought.

Wakka accepted the rope with a thank-you and unwrapped the object, holding it by both of its ends. The teen then proceeded to use it as intended, flipping the rope over his head repeatedly while hopping over it as it sailed below him on it's way back.
After a few times he tripped and fell forward, landing on his front on the wooden floor of the platform. Selphie's jump rope was meant for someone of her height and width. Wakka was greater than her on both counts.
"Haha. Just what I expected," the redhead said with a chuckle as he pulled himself up into a more dignified sitting position and collected the rope from around his legs.

Selphie watched her friend try to jump rope which was indeed a very hard feat for her guy friend who was taller and wider than Selphie where as her jump rope was meant for someone short and skinny. It must've been awkward to try to attempt to jump-rope with such a rope; Wakka managed to skip a few times over the rope but tripped and fell over soon after. The young owner of the rope was trying to figure out what her red haired friend was trying to accomplish.
She looked at her friend as he chuckled, "Hrmm?" she hummed trying to figure out what he had expected. She tilted her head as she waited for him to explain.
