Welcome to Susa, the capital of the great Persian Empire. It is a year of changes for the most exotic and beautiful country in the ancient world. This year, 330 b.c, Alexander the Great, the Macedonian king overcame Darius III and took control of the entire Persian realm. The Persian people have proclaimed him their “Great King” because of his sweeping victories in so many battles and for his gracious treatment of them. However, will they be so accepting of his new religion? Will they worship his new gods or will they band together in mutiny? Only time will tell how this very spiritual population will react to his radical changes.
He has not changed the physical aspects of any of the six countries that are under his rule, but they are not without his influence. Having already conquered Syria, Egypt, Mesopotamia and Bactria, as well as having inherited all of Macedonia after his father’s death, Persia made a nice addition to his explorations.
It has been a six-year long campaign and Susa is making a very comfortable resting place on his path to eternal glory. There is much to be gained from a city as rich in culture and beauty as Persia, but there is also much at risk, by staying so far from home. Will Alexander find whatever it is he is searching for in this new land or will it evade him once again?
