Wakka nodded silently and started to move along the olden sands with Riku toward their wooden dock. It sure was an exciting end to the day, and made fresh promises of things to come.
... then Wakka stopped. Frozen in place with his eyes wide open the redhead stared at the end of the beach next to the docks. Emerging from the water there was a familiar and frightening form. Huge bug-like legs walked an armoured body sideways out onto the beach, huge claws carried above it. It skittered over the sand almost unbelievably quickly and came to a stop in front of the pair, its beady eyes staring them down.
The giant crab had followed them home.

Riku was sauntering happily along when he heard the large break in water. Stumbling back, he gaped at the huge crustacean as it moved to block their path. It had followed them!? This wasn't what he was expecting...
But rather than fear, a wild sort of confidence brewed up in Riku. He was ready for this. This was exactly the sort of fight he needed. Nonchalantly swinging the red coral, he laughed.
"Persistent little pest, aren't you? I guess I'll have to teach you some manners!"
With that he took a huge jump, thanks to Advanced Jump Boost, and landed right on its shell, out of range of the massive pincers.

"How did it even follow us?" Wakka said, clearly scared as he backed away from the monstrous sea creature. "How fast is this thing?"
It was a real concern for him. Wakka had apparently disturbed this animal's home and now it had managed to track him down. What were they supposed to do about it? He was jolted from his thoughts when Riku leaped into action.
"Hey, be careful!" the redhead yelled. Sure he figured Riku could handle himself, but a little encouragement never hurt, right?
In the meantime, the crab didn't seem to keen on having a passenger and started to clap its claws hard, reaching them up towards its back as far as it could in an attempt to scare the critter off.

Getting down on his knees, Riku held on tight to the carapace of the monster sea creature. He slowly made his way towards the back of the shell, before leaning over to behind the crab, attempting to stab at it with the coral. He also hoped it caused the beast to expose its bottom to Wakka.
"Wakka! Hit it if it rears up!"

"Hit it?! With what?!" Wakka called back, unsure of what to do. The island didn't really have many loose rocks lying around that he could throw at it. He didn't have long though. The crab, which was about the same size as they were but lower to the ground, finally had enough of Riku. It didn't rear up so much as dart side to side, very quickly. Wakka's question was answered: The thing really was fast.
Riku would be thrown off of the crab toward the water, landing back on the beach with a small splash from the shallows. It then turned to bring a claw his way, but a sports ball slammed into it from the side and distracted the sea creature's attention.
"Get out of there!" Wakka said as he caught his returning ball.

"Waaah!"
He landed in an undignified splash, before hopping back to his feet and dashing away from the crab, running around to stand by Wakka again.
"Okay, that thing is a little more armored than I thought. What do we do?"

"I'd say swim for it, but I'm exhausted," Wakka answered. At the very least this thing only seemed to walk on the land below the water, not swim in it, but it was too fast for them to get past it to their boats. "What happens if it follows us home too?"
Wakka was out of his element here. It wasn't as if they were being attacked by a sea monster or anything, but some dangerous wildlife was still dangerous wildlife. They had to be cautious here. If there were more of these crabs they wouldn't want them coming here as well.
The animal in question was turning itself around again. It could zip form side-to-side in a flash but apparently had trouble with turns.

Racking his brains, Riku observed his enemy. He noticed its difficulty with turns and soft underbelly...slowly a plan formed in his mind.
"I have an idea for killing it. It can't turn so well, so if we remain on either side of its front and back, it shouldn't be able to get at us. Together, we should be able to tip it over and get at its underbelly. What do you think?"

"Do we have to kill it?" Wakka asked, hesitantly. He felt guilty for what was probably his fault for messing around where he didn't belong. This thing was probably just territorial. "It's just an animal. If we scare it away that should do, ya?"
Wakka tried throwing his ball directly into the face of the crustacean, but besides a small flinch it seemed to bounce off harmlessly. It wasn't really a weapon, after all.

"...You're right. We need to think of a way to scare it off."
A quick sweep of the beachline provided few options. Pretty much all they had were their weapons, which would probably not scare the thing much unless they were able to stab it where it would actually hurt.
"We could try my plan and just wound it...though I'm not sure it'd survive."

The crab started walking toward them now. It was slow when not going side-to-side, but it wanted it's claws out between itself and the two humans. Wakka looked down on the thing as it approached. His mind made it seem larger than it actually was, since one didn't expect a crab to be that size at all, but it was still large and those pincers could still potentially hurt. Wakka turned to Riku as he made the observation.
"If we kept flipping it over without hurting it I think it might get the point," he said, calming down as the initial shock and confusion wore off and it fully sunk in that they weren't being faced by a monster or anything like that. "But why don't you handle being the one who gets past it?"
The redhead smiled as he said the last part.

[[Sorry, life interfered in a very unpleasant way.]]
The same thoughts that crossed through Wakka's head were going through Riku's- he realized that he had been building this crab up to be something far more than it was. It wasn't a monster, just a huge crab. His confidence came back in a rush as he felt himself give a cocky grin.
He gave Wakka a slight salute with two fingers. "Leave it to me!" With that, he took off at a run, circling around the crab, but surprisingly close to it. When the sea creature swung a claw at him in retaliation, he did an athletic roll, landing directly behind it, grabbing it around the back.
"Now, Wakka!"

Wakka used his sports ball to unbalance the crab's legs at a distance so it could be flipped.
Sticking to the plan the pair was able to get the crustacean flustered enough times in this manner that it eventually took the point and fled the beach. The surprisingly fast skittering allowed it to disappear back into the water as quickly as it had emerged. Standing where it ahd once threatened them Wakka wiped his forehead with his right forearm.
"Whew. You don't see that every day," he said before laughing softly. Just another reminder that their little world still might have plenty left to see after all.

Panting slightly, Riku jumped to his feet, heartened by the crab's retreat. He ran over to Wakka, giving his friend a punch on the shoulder.
"Nice shot! We REALLY showed that thing who was boss!"
Thrilled at their victory, he let out a loud whoop and did a fistpump, before stopping and backing off slightly, embarrassed. "Eheh. Sorry. But I haven't have a fight that exciting in a while."
It was nearly dark at this point. "They'll be wondering where we are...let's head back."

Wakka didn't laugh at Riku's excitement. It was good to see the usually quietly confident Riku actually get clearly enthusiastic about something. Upon his friend's mentioning of their trip home, however, the sportsman's face fell. He turned to look at the now nearly-gone sunset and groaned.
Oh man, that thing made me forget about curfew," he said, rubbing his forehead but allowing a self-depreciating smile to appear despite his situation. Wakka quickly resumed his usual relaxed look and waved toward their nearby boats.
"Well, it better have been worth it for you," he said in good fun.
