"What the-- WHY does a place like this even EXIST?" Seifer couldn't help but wonder aloud, smacking himself in the face out of annoyance. He was going to find whoever made up the design of this messed up sewer and beat some sense into him when this was all over. Regardless, he'd kept track of the way he came and turned his sights to the right of the room, searching for a way back through to whatever that shadow had been.

It was odd. It was odd that this room even existed. It was odd that the walls seemed less manmade and more carved out of rock. It was especially odd that Seifer had just been surrounded by 4 shadows in the water. The final odd part was that these shadows weren't shadows... the water was somehow clear enough to make out their forms... things like beetles? Whatever they were, they had claws and were twisted, black things, with bright yellow spots to serve as eyes. The thing that wasn't odd is that they were attacking. One Shadow jumped out of the water, each clawed hand swiping at Seifer's face. The one on the right side moved forward to slash twice at his legs. The one behind him hadn't been seen yet, and was remaining that way, going flat and practically invisible in the not-quite-clear-enough water. And the one to the left of him was circling to the right to try and get in front of him. Shadow 1 [hp=8/8]

Seifer didn't waste any time in ducking backwards, by chance escaping being surrounded with just a scratch to the cheek and a light one to his back. Not as bad as it could have been, but it was enough to tick him off a bit more than he'd already been. "So this isn't just some kind of sick joke after all. And here I thought I'd come down here for nothing." Seifer charged forward, making a spinning strike to catch as many of the four as he could, followed by aiming three quick strikes at the shadowy creature that had attacked him. Seifer's first strike would hit two of the Shadows; the ones that had jumped up to attack him. The third had moved beyond his range by the time of his counterattack, and the fourth was still hidden in the water flattened out. Since it had been knocked back, Seifer's next three blows succeeding, causing it to shudder and break apart into dark shreds that quickly vanished. The one that had hung back moved under the water and then burst out right in front of him, clawing for his chest. The one he'd hit that survived sank into the water, flattening out on the surface below and become effectively invisible. And the one which had been hiding since the beginning, the one Seifer had no real way of knowing was there, jumped out to claw at his back, which he might very well back into. Shadow 1 [hp=0/8]

The one stupid enough to burst out of the water directly in front of him met with a flurry of strikes, and the one behind him would have met with some as well if it hadn't caught him off guard. Seifer growled and sent a final slash its way, retreating a bit and taking his signature fighting stance, the tip of his sword pointing in the same direction he was looking with a sideways stance. He wasn't going to get beaten by some kind of black monster! [recap: Attack x Attack x Attack (Bladed; Shadow 3) x Attack (Bladed; Shadow 4 Bladed weapon student] [hp=33/36]

Shadow 3 was knocked back, like the rest sinking into a flat state and becoming unseen. Shadow 4, on the other hand, only took a glancing blow and advanced again, going for his legs this time with its two swipes. In this water, Seifer's mobility was limited, but these creatures seemed to be ignoring the effects of the water as if it wasn't there! Shadow 2 acted just like the other had, becoming 3d again and jumping out of the water in a surprise attack to claw the teen's face. Whatever these creatures were, they certainly didn't learn from experience. Shadow 2 [hp=6/8]

The Shadow that burst out of the water in front of him had the joy of being on the receiving end of a slash aimed to cut through both of the monsters in front of him, aiming another three swings down at the one clawing at his legs, since the other one seemed to have disappeared for the moment. This could get bad if it dragged on for too much longer...

Shadow 2, being in midair, was unable to dodge, being knocked back through the air and into the water with a splash. Shadow 4, on the other hand, ducked down after two of the blows landed, and then sprang up to claw at the arm wielding the sword, while at the same time Shadow 2 jumped through the air as well to get to him. These things didn't have different strategies and whatnot. Shadow 3, on the other hand, was remaining unseen. Shadow 2 [hp=4/8]

"Back off!" Seifer growled, pulling off a spin attack and stopping himself in the direction the one that had jumped at him was coming from and aiming another attack at it, taking a defensive stance and waiting for the third monster to show itself again, or one of the other two to get back up if he hadn't finished them off and attack again. The blows... both of them... hit their mark, and the Shadows burst in pieces and vanished. The 3rd rose up, seeming to look around. It then began moving through the water away from Seifer, towards a nearby wall. As it neared the wall, it flattened and moved underneath it, vanishing past the wall.
Maybe Seifer had better inspect that wall.

Seifer took the Shadow's running away as a chance to recover himself a bit, taking a few deep breaths to bring him out of 'fight for your life' mode. Once he felt sufficiently calm (enough to not cut open the first thing that moved on impulse), he advanced towards the wall. "Shadow monsters... So there are monsters down here. Let's see where that one went..." He said to himself, examining the wall, but keeping himself ready in case another water pipe decided to burst and flush him down further into the sewer. On the surface, the rock wall was much like every other wall he'd seen in this room. However, Seifer would hear not rushing, but a steady dropping... as well as a strange tapping... and then, a cracking noise loud enough to be worrisome. Especially considering that the previously pristine (for rock) wall now had small pebbles detaching and falling from places.

Seifer had been caught off guard earlier, but the loud cracking in the wall ahead of him was a tip-off that there was probably something behind there trying to get out. He took a few steps back and took his fighting stance, anticipating the wall breaking down and something coming out. If nothing else, it looked like the wall was coming down, and he didn't aim to be hit on the head again by a breaking wall.

The wall promptly crumbled in a burst of water and rock, which poured out into the large pool of water already. Beyond the wall was a dark tunnel that seemed to be a natural cave, bending at a sharp right angle to the left once it got past a certain point. The Shadow that had escaped scrambled outwards onto the rubble, as if trying to see if Seifer had been caught in the collapse. Shadow 3 [hp=2/8]

Seifer charged forward with a rising swing and a downwards one, aiming to get rid of it. The sight of a natural cave connected to the sewers was a tad worrying; who in their right minds would put a sewer tunnel right next to a cavern? Whatever the reason, he was going to investigate once this monster was gone like the others. [Recap: Attack (bladed) x2 Bladed Weapon Student] [hp=36/36]
