So, I'm a big fan of the piano and I'm actually pretty good at it. I've had to teach myself over the years and, overall, I've turned out well. The only problem of mine is that, whenever I try and play a difficult bass when I try and play the melody, I mess up the melody and if I get the melody down I mess up on the bass. I can double task, but not with a piano. So, does anyone have anything I can do to help this? I ask because I want to play the Mysterious Figure theme and, if I practice it enough, want to play it at the school talent show. (Only because it would be totally frickin' awesome!) So... anyone?

I've been playing the piano for a good decade or so, an' I don't mind giving some pointers. ^^
I gotta go right now, but give me a bit of time to skim over the sheet music with my own piano, make a few notes, and get back to you ASAP!

Oh.
It's not sheet music.
*rubs head*
Well, I can generalize a few tips for ya then.
If what you're working off of is anything like the other piano pieces of Yoko Shimomura's, I'm assuming you've got some major rolling going on in the accompaniment-- the bass-- which is the source of your grief. Having experienced some of that fun stuff my self with The Other Promise, here's what I suggest:
Muscle memory.
Beat it in like a dead horse.
In essence!:
Measure by measure, practice the parts for each hand separately, then together. You sound like you've been practicing this piece for a fair amount of time though, so this kind of extreme treatment might only be warranted on the problem measures.
So, when drilling a measure into your hand, start with the left hand. Learn the measure for the left hand, and keep playing the measure non-stop 'till you get it down pat at full tempo. Rinse and repeat with the right hand. Then put it all together, and work towards full tempo on the measure. \
Not fun in and of itself, but your problem is multitasking.
By drilling the measures into the ground, you stop multitasking... by turning on the autopilot.
This ain't easy street-- I've spent easily over an hour working on one measure for The Other Promise. (It had an insane amount of 16th notes! DX)
But this is my suggestion-- take a big brutal stick to the song, and keep on hitting it till it bleeds dry.
Left hand first, right hand second, then all together.
Wish you the best of luck with learning Mysterious Figure, Dante!-- I'm listening to it, and it sounds like a fun piece to play!
