Audition (450 word minimum):
Ansem the Wise’s study on this day was quiet. The man sat, his hands folded in front of his chin, in deep thought. Two things in particular weighed heavily on his mind as of late. Those strange creatures that had attacked Radiant Garden, and now another world. They had been dubbed the Anomaly… but beyond that no one knew much of anything about them, save that they were driven to destroy and kill any and everything in their reach. What was their purpose? Why did they attack other worlds? Where had they come from? So much was a mystery about the creatures… but Ansem aimed to change that. If they could get one of the Anomaly, or a sample of the Storm, there was the potential for two things in particular; an advancement in technology, and a way to defeat these monstrous creatures, perhaps for good. But at the same time, studying the creatures could provide insights to other mysteries of the universe. The Fracture, that old legend, could the Storm have had something to do with why the worlds were separated? The possibilities presented were too many to ignore.
And a second matter was also heavy on his mind. The existence of other worlds. They had existed before they had been discovered, of that he was certain. That so many worlds so close together could go for so many years with no contact at all was a bit odd. He was curious as to how many were actually present… and how friendly or hostile their people may be. Perhaps the two problems, the Storm and the worlds, were closely related. Perhaps the Storm was the reason the worlds were separated, or if not it may have caused other worlds to be completely destroyed or decimated without anyone ever knowing. Still, Ansem’s mind lingered more on the fact of the Storm’s possibilities. There could be any number of resources available from the other worlds, but the Storm and the Anomaly had the potential to shed a massive amount of insight on many different topics. At the same time, it could be nothing more than a swarm of mindless monsters tearing through the universe, but the possibilities could go on and on. But if they were to conduct research on the Storm, or on the Anomaly, they would first need to obtain a sample, either a living creature or a captured fragment of the red clouds that seemed to contain them. Ansem nodded to himself, his mind made up. Studying the Anomaly could yield a number of benefits, but if nothing else perhaps researching them intensively would assist those fighting the Storm. Ansem the Wise stood from his desk and exited the room.
“Dilan, do me a favor and find Even and Ienzo. I have something important I wish to discuss with them,” Ansem instructed. With the Anomaly’s attack so recently, security had tightened, and that meant a guard was warranted on the hallway of his office, if of no others. The man replied with an affirmative and strode off while Ansem retreated to his study once more to wait. He had a new project to work on now…
