Today, was like any other day. The same routine. The same chores, the same eagerness to greet the day. One individual greeted the day early. She had things to do, jobs to do. Today was pretty much a full day for the young teenager. The orange hued sky watched over the young girl as she went about her day. She had brought her lunch with her and ate it along the way while doing jobs for the towns peoples. At first the day seemed to pass by slowly but as she worked harder and harder it eventually began to pass by faster and then she found that it was nearing the end of the day. She found that she had finished everything she could for the day. She told her employer that she would come back tomorrow and decided to head to The Beach.
Along the way she stopped off at her small apartment, she grabbed a leash by the door and a dog came eagerly towards the front door. Its tail wagging happily at the sight of its owner. The teenager girl smiled wonderfully at her dog friend as she hooked the leash onto the dog's collar. They went back outside, closed the door and headed towards the beach. Though, the dog was very friendly it was safer to keep her on a leash. Plus the other towns folk had a thing about keeping pets on leashes. You know, policy and all.
Once at the beach Ellie sat down in the sand and looked up at the orange hued sky full of clouds which made the view even more spectacular than it already was. One could always continue to enjoy the sunset even if that was what they saw everyday. This town, this place. It lived in the sunset forever. And this girl, Ellie, she could never stop enjoying it. As she looked at the vast ocean before her, she began to wonder and dream. Was there something else out there? She petted her dog friend, then let her off of the leash to splash through the crashing waves. "Don't go too far, Lea!" She called towards her dog, who resembled a mix between a Golden Retriever and a some sort of short haired dog. She was brown with a mixture of white spots and speckles. She jumped and sprang into the water with lavishing joy. Ellie smiled happily as she watched her friend.

A large mound of sand sat nearby Ellie. It seemed almost innocent, were it not for the fact that it was very large. Either it was the remains of a giant sandcastle someone had built, or someone had randomly decided to built a giant pile of sand. As it turned out, though, neither was the truth. This was evident when it stirred, sand rolling down one side. The side that was closest to Ellie.
The pouring of sand culminated in a face popping out of the side of the mound. His bright green eyes opened widely, and he shook his head, getting sand off of his pale skin and out of deep black hair. He stared for a moment at Ellie, taking in all the oddities of her appearance. Green and pink hair, for instance. He'd never seen anyone or anything with that particular combination before.
He cocked his head at her, forgetting, briefly, that he was the odd one here; a head sticking out of a pile of sand. "Who're you?" He finally blurted out, staring at her innocently.
((Heh heh heh. Oh man. I looked at your character profile, and our characters go together... INTERESTINGLY. XD))

The girl, Ellie, would have stumbled backwards if it wasn't for the fact that she was sitting down after all. She sort of pulled back some ways, forcing herself to move backwards some as someone asked 'Who're you?'. It was completely random and she was caught off guard, lost in the beauty of the sky, that she was. As she had turned towards whoever it was, she found a head. Yes, a head. Buried in the sand, looking up at her. Oh, and also as she was caught off guard she made a squeaky screaming noise as the boy's head practically scared her. Then, as she calmed down and her heart stopped racing she tilted her head at the boy who had sand stuck in his black hair and sand sticking onto his face.
They both seemed to stare at each other and finally Ellie remembered the question she had become startled by. "Oh, uhm." She stumbled for her words. "I'm Ellie" She said quite happily.
She tilted her head even more so as she stared at the head that stuck out of the sand. "Where'd you come from?" She asked him and her mind began to wander as she continued to speak,"Oh, is there a tunnel underneath there? Did you come from across the ocean, traveling by an underwater tunnel?" She asked him, curiously. Day-dreaming obviously. Coming up with something very bizarre to counter this bizarre situation. It was bizarre indeed.
A head sticking out of a pile of sand, who would have thought!

"A tunnel?" Malthus said, puzzled, looking down. "No. I don't think so." He looked up at her again, puzzlement in his eyes. "I was just sleeping in this pile of sand. It itches. But it's warm if you get enough sand on you." He shifted, and the sand pile collapsed as he stepped out of it. He had a long-sleeved, white t shirt and long jeans, both of which were loose fitting. He shook as he did, shaking off sand that was caked onto him.
"Ugh! Itchy, itchy, itchy!" He murmured to himself, using his hands to try and shake loose all the small bits of sand, doing an odd little dance as he did. "Maybe I'll find an old blanket or something to protect myself from the sand next time. Ptuh!" He made a face as he spat, sand obviously having gotten in his mouth. He paused for a moment. "Oh, right. I'm Malthus." He grinned sheepishly.

Ellie watched as the boy stepped out of the pile of sand and shook the sand off of his body and clothes. She wondered why someone would sleep inside a pile of sand, but it beats her. She lightly shrugged as she herself stood up, putting her hands in front of her some to block the sand that Malthus was shaking off of himself.
Suddenly Lea came barking over and started to jump onto Malthus. She stood on her hind legs and rested her front paws on Malthus's chest. "Lea!" Ellie said to her dog friend trying to get her off of Malthus, pulling her collar to try and get her dog away from Malthus. "I'm so sorry.." Ellie apologized to Malthus about her dog Lea. Finally she managed to get her down and hooked the leash back onto her collar.

"Oof!" Malthus almost backed up when the dog placed her paws on his chest. "Ahahahahah!" Malthus chuckled, tilting his head as he tried to put off the paws. "Lea, huh? Nice name for a dog." He grinned stupidly. Once Ellie had gotten the dog to back off, he shrugged. "It's alright." He put his hands behind his head. "Just an affectionate dog, right?"
Then he tilted his head again, looking puzzled. "So, what are you doing over here?" Malthus inquired, confused. "Most people avoid the pile of sand, though I don't know why... In fact, they usually run away when I see them." It was clear he had no idea why they would run away. Nor, for that matter, why Ellie and her dog were over here.

"Sit," Ellie commanded of her furry friend as Lea did as she was told. Sitting next to Ellie's her beady eyes staring up at Malthus as the two humans talked. Ellie then looked at the boy who appeared from the sand.
"Well..you see." she began, "I just thought it was that, just a plain old mound of sand. Woulda never thought there was actually someone in it." she explained, emphasizing some words as she spoke. "But I suppose you can never expect the unexpected." She smiled at Malthus.
"And I suppose I'm not normal for running away.." she made a small grin towards him.

((Urg... getting tougher. Malthus is harrrd. ;- ) "Oh, ok." Malthus tilted his head and studied her again, carefully. Then he closed his eyes, tilted his head to the side, and smiled back at her, none too bright. And then he let out a large yawn. "Sorry." He apologized, blinking and rubbing his eyes. "Just woke up." He'd apparently already forgotten that by explaining he'd been sleeping in the sand, it would be self-evident that he just woke up. "So... whatcha doing?" He asked curiously. "Any way I can help whatever it is?" He tilted his head the other way, blinking slowly as he waiting for a reply. After all, he didn't have anything to do currently. Maybe he could get something to do today?

It was really, quite a beautiful day. But then again, when wasn't it? The thing Konaa loved about this town was that it seemed to always be in the most lovely part of day. The everlasting dusk made the sun bright...but not too bright. Its warmth was still cast over the town.
The monotony didn't bother him. Why change what was perfect? What he did mind though were the people constantly bothering him. They didn't realize just how useless things like school and work were in the end. He didn't need an education to do what he enjoyed- just going outside was sufficient for that.
Today his teacher's nagging had been even worse than usual. Afterwards, to avoid being caught and dragged into some extracurricular nonsense, he hit the beach, figuring he didn't go there often enough. He took off his shoes and walked towards the water, the warm sand heating his bare feat comfortably. Once at the water's edge, he paused, letting the cool ocean wash over his feet.
He began to walk down the beach, eyes closed, enjoying the fresh breeze and all it had to offer. After a few minutes he opened his eyes again and saw that he had come near two people, one lying on the ground covered in sand. The other he recognized, having seen her about, due to her dog and odd hair color. He was about to pass them.

"I just came to enjoy the sunset and to give Lea here a walk.." She explained to Malthus. "She's been couped inside all day." She added, giving a small smile as she petted her furry friend, whose fur was filthy with specks of sand and salt water. She would need a bath when they got home.
Off in the distance, somewhat behind Malthus Ellie saw the silhouette of another person walking along the beach. So, it seemed that Ellie hadn't been the only one to come here to enjoy the twilight and the salty breeze of the ocean. It was nice to see that others enjoyed such beauty as Ellie did. She looked out at the ocean, a small ocean breeze blowing through her odd colored hair. "Hi!" she said waving towards the new comer, what was another addition to the small group that was forming. Ellie didn't mind the company, but would the other guy come over? Would Malthus mind?

As he approached, the girl waved and greeted him pleasantly. He had a fair idea on how to respond, but he was pretty bad at small talk, considering that he refused to even attempt to improve his ability to do it. Still, there wasn't really any reason to ignore her- she was just being nice.
"Hi."
He stopped by the two, with a blank expression on his face. Now that he was closer, he definitely recognized the girl. Ellie, right, that's her name...is it?

Malthus looked at Konaa. He even walked around him, considering him with an almost solemn manner. It seemed a bit too serious for a second...
...Then Malthus chuckled. "Two new people! Hee. My lucky day, ah?" He never seen this person before either. It could be his chance to get connections with others besides thieves now...
He almost casually began pulling out throwing knives and started juggling them with no thought whatsoever. He paid them no attention, merely seeming to do so only because he could. "Hi new guy! I'm Malthus. And you?"

Ellie smiled at the new comer. Having come to the beach she hadn't expected others to be here as well, specially others her age. She didn't have many friends with her jobs and all, she had to make a living after all! She was on her own at such a young age, but she didn't mind. She offered the newcomer her hand, offering it for a hand-shake. Her dog companion looked at Konaa as she sat there next to Ellie. She then began to whine.
"Wondrous afternoon isn't it?" She asked the newcomer, ignoring her dog. She looked out at the horizon, a small smile still on her lips. "What brings you out here, fellow Twilightian?" she asked, having come up that word right there on the spot. She thought the word over and couldn't help but giggle.

Konaa was a little unnerved and jolted slightly when Malthus started circling him. He didn't take his eyes off the strange guy, feeling uncomfortable while he was being examined. This guy seemed almost...amused. He was casually throwing knives all over the place. Konaa was silent when asked for his name.
A whining caught his attention. The girl's dog was looking at him. A small smile appeared on his face as he scratched the dog behind the ears, briefly. Turning back to Ellie, he was slightly abashed to see her offering her hand. Such trust for a complete stranger...
Awkwardly, he took her hand and shook it lightly. His ineptitude with social greetings was fairly clear.
"Konaa."

One by one, Malthus threw the knives back into the sand, all five of them flashing with accuracy. He created a plus sign with them as they landed, bending down to retrieve them gracefully. He tucked them away somewhere, showing no sign of where they actually were, and then stood back up.
"Well, hey-o Konaa!" Malthus was almost infernally cheerful, as if ignorant to the social awkwardness that Konaa had around him like an aura. He smiled vacantly, dully. Then he turned away and glanced out to the sea, as if considering something.
