What would've happened if Jon didn't fall for Thayet?
Jon, who needed a Queen and was still in love with Alanna, proposed properly to his Lioness. Alanna, who still loved Jon (as well as George) accepted. She knew it was a mistake. She loved Jon, but he needed a Queen who could run Tortall. She was sure she couldn't. Everybody in the land was in doubt, they'd thought their Monarchs reign was cursed, and since he married the only female knight, doubt has turned into fear. People openly wonder if Tortall has lost favour with the Gods. In the middle of all this fear, Scanra teamed up with Tusaine's Duke Hilam and Count Jemis to overrun Tortall.
War is everywhere, the new King Maggur has all of Scanra under his banner. The killing device's are running loose into the Tortallan border. The new alliance with the Yamani Islands is useful, they attack Scanra from the side. Tusaine is once again fighting for the Drell River Valley. Knights by the hundreds are being sent to the border.
Will Tortall be overrun?
