Tidus was doing well, but his staff and strength didn't match Sora with his wooden sword when it came to the power of returns. Wakka could still catch them without harming himself, even at this range.
"You've still got-" he said, before firing a close shot with his fastest throwing motion. Wakka's Ranged Weapon Trainee was very accurate and potent at this distance. "-a ways to go!"

[avatar]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/NinjaKokoro/DreamSequence/14muioj.gif[/avatar]Tidus could feel that he needed more strength, his returns were pretty nice in terms of keeping a nice rally, but he needed to do more. With Wakka's accuracy and the close range, Tidus once more did his Flip attack, intending to send a fair bit of power back at Wakka. "The road of a champion is always forward!" Tidus stated, already prepping for the next return.

Wakka was staggered by the return. The closing of distance made things harder on him and Tidus, but the use of his favourite special attack was keeping the younger of the two going strong. It was about the same as Sora's returns had been now.
'I should get it out of his system,' Wakka thought, smiling as he jumped up in the air and used both arms to fire his Power Shot in a downward angle at Tidus. No way he could return that with a normal strike.

[avatar]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/NinjaKokoro/DreamSequence/14muioj.gif[/avatar]Tidus did something unexpected when he caught glimpse of Wakka's favourite Power Shot. Knowing a lot of the power had to do with gravity and the angle, Tidus himself utilized his Jump Boost to meet that power shot head on! Both hands clasping his staff as he rose to meet the ball along with his rising jump momentum. The unexpected method of return, for Tidus the thrill and the power he had to put in...it almost felt like a new technique. Alas, he was just utilizing his blunt weapon skills with a great boost.
"Hyyyyyyeeeeeaaaaaah!"

Unfortunately for Tidus he had underestimated Wakka's throwing strength. He was the one who would feel the backlash of trying to take it on that way, and probably end up with a shaky landing. Wakka, on the other hand, hit the sand again and then easily hopped back a bit to catch the returning Sports Ball without fail.
"You need to know your limits," he teased the younger boy with his relaxed accent.

Indeed there was a fair bit of backlash involved, however much of it was negated due to thr upwards momentum Tidus utilized, sadly his own strength did not compensate enough for additional power. It did mean that Tidus was developing his own muscle, attempting to find the very limits Wakka teased him about. By doing such actions he would be properly entering into the realm of strength based maneuvers, instead of his traditional agility based ones.
"Tch, I'm just a little off today. No sweat, let's try this again!" Tidus announced, his knees juttered a bit but his landing was done with the proper technique in mind at least. Once he found his balance, he was ready to go again.

"That's all right." Wakka said as he put the ball away, finished for now if not quite satisfied. He didn't want to say it out loud, but what he was looking for was training for himself in how to receive shots knocked back at him better. With Tidus though it always became abotu a competition between them instead of focusing on the matter at hand.
"You warmed up enough yet?"

"Yeah I'm ready, but we should probably get a little climbing practice in. No telling what we'll do during our exploration today."
Tidus jerked his staff to a coconut tree not too far from the. If he could get some climbing in, then he could work on some upper-body strength, assisting him with his rowing for later. Though he did want to keep up their little game, competition just flowed through Tidus' form.

Wakka shook his head and then followed the boy. The redhead sure didn't remember having that much excess energy to throw around three years ago. Tidus was the kind of kid who could make other kids feel old.
"I thought we were exploring a cave today, not trees," Wakka called out to the boy in a joking manner.

[avatar]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/NinjaKokoro/DreamSequence/14muioj.gif[/avatar] "That's true, we are...but if we've got to do any climbing, then we'll need to warm up some." Tidus admitted, but he was already off to that tree. Equiping his trusty staff were it belonged, he'd hop up onto the trunk. Then he'd proceed to really get the upper body warmed up. Utilizing his core muscles and arm muscles to get him higher and higher.
He'd of course look down to Wakka briefly,
"Come on, hop to it first mate!" Tidus reminded the older boy.

Wakka didn't say "Aye aye" this time, not ready to acknowledge Tidus as a Captain outside of their visits to the Dark Isle. Instead he gave up on his resistance and made for the coconut tree next to the one Tidus had chosen and began to scale it himself. The kids often did this, so it wasn't especially dangerous.

[avatar]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/NinjaKokoro/DreamSequence/14muioj.gif[/avatar]"That's the spirit, last one up owes a picked coconut from their tree!" Tidus declared, increasing his output a bit in order to climb further up. He wasn't disappointed that Wakka didn't give him an aye, aye. It was more meant for joshing than anything else. However, once they got to the Isle, Captain Tidus would take such seriously. After all, he possesed the most information about the place, he needed to keep his crew safe. With each stride he wondered if that's how Wakka felt o na daily basis.

Given that climbing was a combination of strength and agility, Wakka put up a decent fight against the younger man even though Tidus had a head start. He was faster, but shorter and weaker.
"Looks like a tie," Wakka said lazily as he sat down on top of the palm tree and relaxed in the sunlight.

[avatar]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/NinjaKokoro/DreamSequence/14muioj.gif[/avatar]"You're right, so lets grab a coconut each and get a little healthy snack in. We should be able to save up energy if we balance our little work out session." Tidus said, perched atop the tree he climbed. His right arm leaning back as he attempted to reach one of the prized fruit.
"If not, I've got some stuff at home which should perk us right up."
Tidus said with a grin, yep he had an unknown energy tank hidden somewhere...

Wakka silently took his time balancing off of the tree and plucking a green coconut from udnerneath its branches. Once he was sitting atop the tall plant again he tossed the fruit up in the air and caught it a few times, feeling it out as if it were a ball.
"So Tidus, you took me pretty seriously about your training the other day?" Wakka asked, referring to a few days ago when the pair had been playing their made-up ball game in the water. Today's actions seemed to resonate with that memory and spurred the comment.
