Riku slowly heaved himself through the open gap of his window, landing quietly on the ground below. The stars were shining in the overhead sky as he made his way down to the beach, not really caring much for stealth as he ran quickly.
Once at the edge of the water, he looked up, gazing at the stars in the sky. According to local legend, each one was a world, far away, and together they all shared the same sky. He'd often wondered if the key to leaving the world was through the sky..But that was sadly impossible.
He sighed, lying down and feeling the soft sand beneath him. Soon he'd lost all track of time as he looked longingly up at the stars, ever out of reach.

Restless, restless as always was Sora. His parents were sound asleep, but he was not. They didn't like it when he stayed up late, but... he just couldn't help it sometimes; it just wasn't in his nature to stay still for that long. His only real plan as he lowered himself out of his window, fully clothed despite it being who-knew-how-late now, was running around at random until he felt tired enough to sleep. He didn't expect to run across Riku staring up into the sky like it held the answer to some very important question. Maybe it did; he never really paid attention to the sky besides seeing if rain was coming or to make a guess at when he had to go back home. He was curious as to why Riku was out here so late, so he changed course and wandered up to talking distance. "Whatcha doing, Riku? Is something wrong?"

A voice rang out through the air, causing Riku to start. He turned around, to see his longtime friend coming at him. Sora. A total goofball, but honest, and determined to match Riku in every challenge he received. The silver haired boy had been able to outpace his younger friend for a long time, but lately Sora was catching up. It made things interesting.
Riku laughed, casually waving a hand. "Nothing's wrong, Sora. I'm just out here to appreciate the night. How about you?"

"I couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd run around until I was tired," Sora answered, shrugging and shuffling his feet a little. "So... um... why are you staring at the stars? I think you told me once, but I can't remember if you did or not."((Blah.))

Riku grinned. Typical, really. He was contemplating the existence of other worlds, and Sora just wanted to be a hyperactive kid.
"You know the old story? Every star in the sky is another world."
He turned his gaze skyward once more, silent in the face of the twinkling lights for a minute or so. Afterwards, he turned back to his friend.
"Sora, do you know what you want to do with your life?"

"Um... I never really thought about it. I dunno. What about you?" Sora answered, honestly considering it for a minute before answering. He wasn't quite the type to plan things out more than a day ahead. Riku would probably think ahead like that, yeah, but Sora just wasn't that kind of planner. At least, not yet anyways. Maybe when he was older, but for now, it was pretty much one day at a time.

As expected. Not more than a day's thought process. In a way Riku envied Sora for being able to take everything at such a leisurely pace, to be able to relax and enjoy the life they had. Contrast that with Riku, who spent these days crying for the moon.
"You know the old story, right? Every star in that sky is a world...Or so they say."
He turned to his friend. "People sailed far and wide, and found nothing. I'd guess the only way out of here is up. I want to get off this island, Sora."

"Um... Okay," Sora said, not really knowing how to reply to such a statement. What DID one say to something like that, anyhow? "But Riku, even if those old stories are true, how would anybody get there? It's not like we can fly or anything like that..."

Odd that Sora of all people would bring him back down to reality. He gave a long sigh and nodded, smiling sadly. "I guess that's the big question..."
He turned back to his friend, grinning broadly now. "But you know, a chance might just come. You can never guess what'll happen the next day..."
He held out a fist. "How about a round, Sora? Let's get our swords and spar."

"Yeah, I guess it's possible, but I don't think I'll worry about it too much," Sora admitted, shrugging. This event would probably be out of his memory for a couple of days, or until the next time Riku decided to have a 'serious' talk. He got like this maybe once a week, where he'd talk about going on an adventure or something like that on another world. It sounded like a lot of fun, sure, but it kind of upset the other kids.
Wakka probably thought his friend was getting a little stir crazy, but Sora agreed more with Riku. He was sure there were other worlds out there (Albiet not on his mind at most times), but getting there wasn't exactly possible for them. "Huh? Now? Um... I'd like to, but what if we wake somebody up? We'll probably get in trouble if that happens, and it's a little too late for us to go to the island. My parents would be really mad if I went over there with them asleep."

"Aww, come on, Sora. You're no fun sometimes." He gave his friend a playful shove, somewhat astonished despite his words at Sora's sense of consideration. He did have a point, but Riku was confident that they wouldn't wake anyone up. Well, he thought he was, anyway. Truth be told, he was itching for a fight, and wanted to get one as soon as possible.
Crossing his arms, he grinned knowingly at Sora. "Unless you're scared? I can't say I blame you..."

"What? I'm not scared!" Sora responded hurriedly, grinning. "Okay, why not? I'm gonna beat you this time, Riku!" He said, pulling his wooden sword from his belt. He had no idea why he'd brought it along with him, but oh well. "So what's the rules for this time? First to five hits wins?"

So predictable! Riku grinned back, glad that Sora was so easy to taunt.
"Sure, that sounds good to me. Try to keep up, okay?"
Drawing his sword from his belt, he relaxed into his confident yet ready fighting stance, holding the sword aloft and tensing his legs, ready to spring in any direction.
"Come on, take a whack. Let's see what you're made of."

"I'll get you this time, Riku!" Sora said, grinning and laughing. He charged forward and made a wide swing at Riku, following up with another two swings in case Riku blocked or did one of those fancy rolls or jumps like he did, which if Sora knew his best friend as well as he did, he would do.

Riku did indeed jump, in fact, he jumped as high as he could, square over Sora's head and landed directly behind him. He was well aware that his friend was fired up and he was ready for him. Upon landing, he lunged at Sora's back, attacking with two quick strikes.
