Wakka thought about that for a while as they walked. It wasn't like they had seen every side of the island yet, right? The beach they kept their boats at was just the closest convenient place they had found to do so. If they had gone another way would they have found another spot?
"Well I doubt they swam in through a wider opening below the water," Wakka said, heavily accented for emphasis on his jest. He laughed as he walked. He and Tidus? They could swim out pretty far, but the Dark Island was the only decent-sized land near their home island and even they couldn't reach it by swimming without tiring out first.

Selphie continued to follow the two boys and the mysterious foot prints. They were all trying to come up with different theories, accept Selphie didn't really have any, well at the moment. She had been so enthusiastic to search for treasure this side trip to 'go and find and help somebody' wasn't really up her isle. But, she would come along needless. There was still treasure involved. Perhaps if they found the owners of the footprints they might find treasure, right?

Selphie was rather quiet during their speculation, but Wakka had a point. Swimming was out of the question, the more reasonable solution was a different docking point. The waves may have simply removed any other traces of prints. Though it was a rather curious endeavour. Tidus decided ultimately to keep his eye on the prize. Treasure could be anywhere, thus he was sure to look.
The possibility that finding the owners of these prints would get them closer to treasure was also a possibility. Thus when they arrived at the end of the line, there was some confusion. Up ahead was a small cave. This one not quite as dark as the one prior. In fact, it seemed fairly lit, which was odd. There was also a large "X" off to the side. The prints indicated going into the cave, but what was the X for?
In terms of look, the X seemed like it had been etched in there for awhile, it was more feint, easy to glance over if one wasn't really looking out for it. Tidus couldn't help but point to it.
"X marks the spot mateys!"

Wakka had been looking at his own footsteps to make sure he didn't trip while carrying the supplies, as well as to keep from stepping on the tracks they were following. He was also keeping an eye out off to the side of the group, to see if he could spot anything. Tidus was the first to see the new cave because of this, which brought Wakka's attention immediately with the mention of the X. The tee athlete moved to Tidus' side and looked in the direction indicated.
"I don't believe it," he said slowly, letting out a breath of disbelief to match his statement. It was a look of mild wonder on his face. Breaking the gaze he looked over to Selphie.
"Well... I guess you shoudl makr an X on our map for the location of that cave?" he said, his questioning tone still making it sound like he didn't believe they had actually found treasure marked by an X.
'X marks the spot, but the spot of what?'

Selphie looked to where Tidus was as he said 'X marks the spot' only to see another cave, but with an X marked on it. Strange. But, none the less she took out a pencil and marked an x on the map to where they were. "Got it!" she announced after she had marked the cave. She had written a 'cave' next to the X on the map and then stuffed them back into her side bag.
Selphie was a bit hesitant to go inside another cave, but at least this one was lit. And it seemed that the prints led into the cave. A mysterious cave with mysterious footprints leading into it. "We shall..solve this mystery to the footprints..." Selphie announced, more so in a whisper. Which was pretty uncommon for this spunky girl. It seemed that her focus was now on solving the mysterious footprints. But, hopefully it didn't lead to anything too dangerous. She was also pretty much still looking forward to finding the loot.

"Woah slow-down Navigator girl, we've got treasure to dig up. First Mate, toss me a shovel."
Tidus was prepped to do some serious digging. The cave itself, while tempting to explore would distract them from the goal of treasure. Tidus couldn't pass up obvious treasure infront of them. The cave could wait in this circumstance! Flexing his arms a bit, Tidus prepped for the inevitable physical exherition.
"Depending on what we find underground, it might give us a clue about the prints anyway."
Tidus reckoned though he really just wanted to dig up some buried treasure.

Wakka was forced to shake his head in disbelief. Who would have thought the day would come that they would discover a mysterious cave on a mysterious island and Tidus wouldn't want to charge head-first into it? It was certainly a surreal moment, but one had to relent to reality.
"Aye aye, Captain," Wakka said as he tossed one of the two shovels to Tidus. He asked Selphie to hold onto the other while he took his pack off and put it down, then took the tool back from her.
"Shall you do the honours and break first ground?" he asked Tidus.

Selphie stood there and held one of the shovels for Wakka, she waited for them to break ground. She was eager about two things. Treasure and finding the mystery to the prints. She got antsy waiting for the two to dig up where the X was. "Come on..come on..." she said, almost jumping around. If one was to look at her, one would first think that she had to go to the bathroom. But, she was really excited about finally finding something, that she seemed she couldn't hold it in. If they didn't find anything soon, she would take one of the shovels and dig herself!

Tidus grinned at the proposal by Wakka. Of course he'd take the first dig. Happily sinking the spade into the ground. He'd no sooner dig and dig, then dig some more. Once he was comfortable with progress, he'd speak up.
"Okay Selphie, reach your hand down and pull. I'm going to dig up further around us to test something."
Truth was, he'd hit something unusual and it didn't seem small. Thus he decided to keep on digging except a little further away in order to test his idea.
"Hmm I might be onto something, whatever's burried here is...kind big!"
Excitement levels were on the rise.

Wakak came to Tidus' aide after the first batch of dirt was uncovered. Together they dug, working their arms(Already tired from the rowing over. Wakka was finding that no visit to this island seemed to be easy on his muscles) and backs to get the ground cleared away from any possible goodies beneath it.
After a short period of the labourious work Tidus called a halt and gave new directions. 'Did we hit something?' Wakka wondered as he looked over to Selphie, who had been asked to assist in the clearing now. He followed the Captain's lead to move to a wider position and started to dig again, a little more carefully this time.
Wakka hadn't actually expected to find anything today...

Selphie jumped eagerly into the hole, figuratively of course. She stuck her hand into the sand, pulling..whatever it was upwards as the boys continued to dig. It did feel heavy. But, never the less the young girl eagerly tried to pull the thing up. Had they actually found something? Was it a chest full of gold? Treasure beyond their wildest dreams? Selphie could only imagine what they had just dug up.
"Help.." Selphie whined, still trying to pull the thing up. She guessed that they had dug around it enough so that they could get it up but with Selphie's skinny arms she couldn't muster the strength to get the thing up by herself.

What the trio had found was indeed a chest! Mind you, it wasn't a treasure chest, but certainly a large box that was rather heavy. It meant it was filled with something. Selphie's would be able to see two handle locations one on either side of the rectangle shape. Tidus and Wakka, whom had begun to dig wider, would get a handle each.
"Alright mates, PULL!" The dirty blond captain declared. He grasped the visible handle and did his best to heave. Treasure, could any of them believe it? It was a real test of physical endurance, as well as teamwork. Similar to how they moved the boulder, except much more exhertion was done and in such a short period. The chest itself was brown, with a gold trimming. Revealing itself, bit by bit as they uplifted the thing.

Could any of them believe it? Wakka was just about ready to be pulled into the fantasy once he and Tidus had uncovered a better look at the shape of the thing. Moving nearly on autopilot he tossed his shovel aside and reached down to grasp the handle on his end of the box.
At the call of "PULL!" he pushed up with his legs and used as much strength through his body as he could to haul the thing up quickly. It didn't seem to want to come out quickly though, so it took a few attempts to wedge it out.

With one last heave, Selphie collapsed onto the warm sand. She looked down at what they had just uncovered from below the sand. A treasure chest? Really? It was almost unbelievable. Looking from the chest to her two friends, Selphie's jaw seemed to hang open. "Is this it, gang?" she asked them, though more so to herself because she couldn't believe what they had just found. It seemed to weigh a ton so it must have treasure in it! Right?
If only they could get it open now, because from the looks of it there was a lock on it. Perhaps it was old and rusty and would break apart with ease? Selphie was now eager to get the chest open to see what they had found and hopefully it wouldn't disappoint. Especially Selphie, she hated things that disappointed her. She stared at the lock, "Err, someone go find a rock to break it with.." she suggested.

Upon the final heave, the trio retrieved the chest from its earlthy confines. Laying it down with a thud, they now had the oppertunity to look it over. No visible way to open it at first, until they saw the latch. The latch seemed to be shut tight, wheter or not a rock would do the trick was up for debate. Regardless, Tidus took up the Navigator's suggestion and brought it over.
"Go for it." he instructed to her after getting her a stone. He himself didn't have an idea of how it'd open with such a method. As far as he could tell, it seemed as if it'd need a key or a specific mechanism had to be triggered.
