"Man, if we can't open it then there's no way we can take it back," Wakka said as he caught his breath.
The older teen busied himself now with picking up the two discarded shovels and placing them back with his pack. Afterward he returned to the group to see how Selphie had fared with the rock.
"This thing is too heavy to put in just one of our boats," he added to his original statement. It could be handled, but it wouldn't really be safe for the person in the boat if the water got a bit rough. "We'd have to hope whatever inside is lighter, or can be split up."

Selphie took the rock Tidus had fetched and began to hit it against the side of the lock, hoping that it had rusted over time and perhaps even with the tide, though it wasn't often the water reached up here. The first hit didn't do much, just left a dent. Selphie began to hit it repeatedly.
"Hmm.." she thought, she looked towards Wakka as he gathered the shovels and put them with his pack. "Wakka, ya think one of the shovels would work wonders on this here lock?" It was a perfect idea! Bashing the stupid lock with a rock had been a stupid idea. But this here idea she had now, was brilliant to say the least. Now to put it to action. She stood back, "Wakka, take a stab at the lock with one of the shovels.."

Tidus had stood back for the most part. Observing the treasure chest and it's lock. It seemed it'd require a fair bit of physical exhertion in order to open it. This was going to be quite the experience. None of the kids knew what was inside. Selphie's efforts of denting the lock, though seemingly fruitless may prove to be worthwhile later. Meanwhile, Tidus' eye took notice of the side of the chest, taking note of the latches.
"Wakka could you toss me a shovel as well, we may be in for a bit of legwork."

Ya, sure," Wakka said lazily as he went over to retrieve a shovel. Upon Tidu's request he picked up the second as well and walked back to the site of their dig with one in each hand. he tossed one over the chest to the younger teen.
Wordlessly the strongest among them went to work, putting a rock near the box so eh could put his right foot on it higher up as support before jamming the metal shovel head down between the latch and the chest form above.
"Selphie, hold it steady from behind for me," he requested, not wanting the thing to just move as he worked. It was already heavy, so the girl's added strength should be plenty for that. With that he used the handle of the shovel sticking up in the air as a lever, pushing it back toward the box to try to break off the lock. Of course, if Wakka felt for even a moment that the strain was worse on his tool than on the "treasure chest" then he would stop immediately. he couldn't risk breaking it off or anything like that.

Selphie did as she was told and held the chest from behind so that Wakka could get at the lock without it moving. Holding it steady she waited for the lock to break, which only came moments later. "It worked!" she exclaimed, eager and ready to open the chest so that she could have a look inside. To see the treasure! But, there was another lock of which Tidus hadn't gotten to yet. She waited patiently, holding the chest steady...

Hammering away at the lock, Tidus began to synch his motions with Wakka's. Together the duo would hammer away and "Click", the latches would fold up. Treasure awaited them and Selphie was eager to see. Thus Tidus looked to her and gave her a visual "okay" to open it up. Though a bit heavy, moving it up wouldn't be too difficult.
However it's contents was a treat! It wasn't munny or anything like that. Instead it was a collection of memories. Pictures, seashells, a fishing rod, even a worn down ball not unlike the one Wakka carried with him. There was a bottle with a note inside as well.
If they opened it up, they'd see the following:
"Stored away from long ago, our memories may live forever more. Though the sands of time may fill an hour glass, it can never wash away what we had."
The signatures below were rather recognizeable. It was their parents.

"Looks like we found the important treasures of someone else," Wakka said with a wistful sigh. He smiled, not having expected gold coins or anything like that. He leaned over and looked at the photograph. He looked at it strangely, one of the faces seeming familliar but not being sure where. Curious the teen picked up the bottle and opened it. The teen read the letter inside aloud, signatures included.
'Dad?' he thought, eyes opening wide. A picture from before his parents disappeared... when his father was still a kid. Wakka couldn't help but examine the photo again.
Yes, there he was... similar to some of the few younger pictures of his dad that he had seen before. He stood there, holding the same fishing rod in the chest... the girl who must have been Selphie's mom there sat in the sand with the shells around her... the other boy who had to be Tidus' father had the very ball preserved with the photo as well.
Well whadaya know?"

Selphie eagerly opened the chest as Tidus gave her go to open it. What was revealed, was a little disappointing to the young female but with closer examination of the contents of the chest, she couldn't help but gasp. These people in the photos were their parents, the signatures on the note supported that accusation. "Wow..." the dirty-blonde said in a whisper as she looked at the contents. Pictures of their parents when they were their age, their things and a note. It was all more that Selphie had expected. The least she could have expected was a note that was to lead them somewhere else on the island.
But, instead they had found a sort of time-capsule of their parents. It seemed that their parents had also been best friends when they had been Selphie, Wakka's and Tidus's age. "Oh my god..." she announced. Now she had to go tell her mother what she found! Her mum would be surprised that they had actually found a treasure chest that their three parent's had buried long ago. She wanted to know even more about it, but from her mother. Selphie examined the seashells, it seemed that her mother had the same hobby as Selphie did. That was why she loved when Selphie brought back seashells. Looking at the pictures she couldn't help but smile, it seemed that the three of them were spitting images of their parents.

Tidus was just as surprised as the rest, though he tried to act cool when he saw the picture of his father. "Not bad old man." he mused to himself before examining the ball closer. They had found quite a treasure today, sure it wasn't gold or anything but...it was one that they could commit to their hearts. A precious memory which would extend their bond with their parents.
"Well then...I say we bring home the loot to show our parents." he proclaimed before turning to the direction of the Mysterious Cave.
"We'll be tackling the cave on our next adventure. I'm sure it leads to areas of this place still untouched."
There was some truth to his words, considering the X while somewhat corroded, maintained it's shape for all these years. People really avoided this place at all costs.
"Onwards everyone, we're heading home."
