"Hah! Well I don't know about Riku losing his edge but he certainly seems to have lost motivation. Maybe getting on some sports teams this school year will keep him lively?" Tidus was refering to the boy's lack of enthusiasm for school and such. Even the regular outting to the islands didn't have that spark or maybe, like Tidus and Wakka...he only got his spark when it involved competition. If that was the case, he really needed to play sports.
Besides that, Tidus wasn't as interested in sparing either. Sports like their ball game was where it was at. He was the Ace Athlete not DI's Ace Defender, after all.
"Still, it'd be nice to beat him at his own game. Maybe if we did, he'd actually join up." Tidus added, it was a mix of teasing but hopeful enthusiasm.

"Haha. There's an idea," Wakka said as he and Tidus got back to walking on the sand instead of the mud below the water. "We can make a bet. If he loses a duel he has to play with us."
Wakka was only joking about the bet, of course. He would only want Riku to play sports because Riku wanted to play sports. It was getting a bit tiresome, though. Wakka had been trying to convince Riku to join his teams pretty much ever since the two had met.
In the meantime Wakka made his way toward the dock. They would drop off their net and game ball in their boats before they got their clothes back.

"Heh, I wonder if he'd keep his word if we did win the bet." Tidus mused aloud. Placing away their nets along with the gameball, they'd finally retrieve their dry clothes and some towels to match. That was when something came to mind.
"Hey, what about Sora? Maybe if he joins the team, we'll finally get Riku also. We might just be able to finally get the gang together for something during school!"
Tidus was pretty excited, this new angle of "attack" might just work. After all Summer Days, while awesome, didn't last forever. They were fleeting, no sooner would homework be on their desks, with then confined to it. That part didn't exactly encourage Tidus, but after school activities sure did.
"Ah but that wouldn't be fair to Selphie..."
Considering Tidus and her were actually in the same class, the boys hanging out after school to practice for team sports sorta left her out of the loop.

"Selphie does have other friends, Tidus," Wakka said with amusement, laying a hand on the younger boy's shoulder as he said it. Since she was something of a tomboy it was easy to forget that she had a circle of female pals at school too.
Wakka had finished putting his stuff in his boat and now waited for Tidus, arms crossed.
"How about for summer training you try to put a little muscle on your bones?" he asked casually. "Could help you in duels too. You shouldn't stay a weakling forever."
Of course, the last part was a joke. Wakka was a bit tired, after all. But there was only one way the competitive Tidus could interpret such a statement...

"Hey!" Tidus countered, though he couldn't help but scratch the back of his head. The older boy did have a point. Tidus focused so much on his speed and his tactics, that he was lacking stamina and strength. If he wanted to progress further, he'd need to get tough. Which caugt the dirty blond thinking for a moment.
"Say Wakka, what did you do to get stronger? Your stamina is really good after all." Tidus added, offering up a genuine compliment in his question. He never really inquired much on Wakka's personal training or fitness. The two had their methods and they clashed them when they met. A learning experience in the making.

"Me? Well, lifting weights is the best for upper body strength I think," Wakka said, almost absentmindedly. His gaze wavered as he looked upward to the sky. "But for stamina it was swimming."
Wakka looked back down into Tidus' eyes again and smiled.
"You're so good at it naturally that you've spent less time practicing than me, you know? That's why I've got an edge in an endurance test, even if you're better at it."

"Heh, so that's how you do it. I'll do some swimming drills. That should work out all my muscles evenly." Tidus reckoned, his right hand slamming into the open palm of his left. Yes, Tidus had a brain blast so to speak. Some more time in the water wouldn't hurt either but for now...
"So, what should we do now that we're on-land. It's a bit too early to get back into the water. We should also get something to eat too."
Perfect timing as Tidus' stomach began to growl. All that physical exertion worked up an appetite!

"Hey, don't forget we still need to dry off first," Wakka said with amusement to Tidus' ever-forward gaze. Sometimes he needed to remind the kid to take care of the immediate issue at hand.
"Food huh? Well, how about this then?" Wakka asked as he walked down the pier a bit and opened up his arms wide, moving past Tidus so his back was shown. "A little game to see who lunch is on."

"A game huh? Didn't think you were ready to get schooled again so soon! Alright, let's try off and change first. Then we'll decide on the game, with lunch being the stakes." Tidus declared as they continued to the pier. He had a bit of a hop to his step now, so eager...it was hard to properly direct all that enthusiasm. His ever forward gaze constantly made him forget about the little things. Thankfully Wakka was there to keep his feet planted.
If not, he'd by high up in the clouds!

"Sure thing. I know just the game," Wakka said knowingly as he followed behind Tidus. Now that they had left their stuff in the boats their next stop was the high platform built near the miniature dock. Their real clothes were stored safely up there.
"After you, Mr. Winner," Wakka said playfully as they reached the ladder.

Tidus simply shook his head. He started to climb the ladder all the same, but upon reaching the top, he'd take a look out real quick.
"Only those who go on first can win, Wakka."
He'd used the climb to think about a comeback and it worked. Still, now that they were up here, it was time to get their proper attire.

Wakka held on to the ladder and waited for Tidus to clear the way. After the little comeback the teen laughed. not all comebacks worked that long after the setup was given. Well, Tidus was a star athlete, not a star comedian. "You can't win them all," Wakka said as he got up to the platform as well.
A few minutes later and they were both toweled off and back in their nice, dry clothes.

"So how about it? What's this game you've got in mind?"
Ever eager to get onto the next stage of competition, DI's Ace Athlete was practically jogging in place. Alright more like slight pacing, but still! It didn't make him any less eager. His hand moving to grip his trusty pole now that he was back in their street wear.

Wakka grinned and then walked to the opposite side of the platform from Tidus. The boy then knelt down on his knees before laying out flat even further onto his stomach. He crossed his arms in front of him and then looked up to Tidus. He said nothing but he gave the boy an expectant look. Wakka moved his head and tilted it to the space on the floor in front of him, as if asking him to copy his position and mirror him.

Tidus gave Wakka the "are you serious" expression before mumbling about excercise. He then mirrored the older boy's actions and awaited the next course expectedly. If this was seriously ao set of excercises, Tidus wouldn't be too pleased. After all, it's not that he was averse to physical activity. He was just averse to repetition. It's the reason he had avoided strength training in favour of his agility. At least with agility he could really mix it up, this was just about dedication and hardwork...
