Wakka rowed along behind the group, just keeping his mind focused on the task at hand. he might go crazy over-thinking the problem or worrying if he didn't. No, now was the time to use his game mentality, to focus on the game plan and to work together with his team mates! They had to not only score more points than the opposing team, but they had to try to not give up any points either. Even 1 would be a hard loss to recover from.
"Tidus, I'm following you once we get into the reef. Don't stray from Selphie's path or I'll be in trouble," the "Team Captain" reminded his "star player".

[avatar]http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h271/BrokenMelody/KH%20Icons/khff062.gif[/avatar]"Got it." Tidus replied as he continued to row his boat, keeping in-line with Selphie's own boat. Things would get tricky from here on out. He had to make sure to follow the gameplan rigidly. There was no room for error, though the obvious improv should only be done if there was no choice. Yeah, Tidus was...nervous, but excited as well. This was going to be a defining moment for them. They might just make the history books or at least become famous in the Fisherman circles!

"Stop here!" Yektaw hissed, giving Selphie the signal to stop the boat right between the two rocks. He closed his eyes a moment, visualizing. "Paddle forwards 10 feet, then turn ye starboard an' go 20 feet. Iffn ye turn to port an' go forth 15 more feet, ye will be at a fork. To th' starboard be a large open area. To th' port side be a maze even I know not. Choose ye wisely where to wait fer th' Konger."

Selphie did as the old man said to, she stopped paddling and the boat eventually stopped. Listening to his directions. Paddle forward 10 feet, turn starboard -err, right- and go 20 feet, then turn port -left- and go 15 more feet. Selphie jotted those down in her mind and started to go forward, following his directions. Why did she have to be in front? Even though sometimes she did like being leader, the leader role was a bit hard..
Never the less, she followed the ol' man's directions. She came to a fork and stopped, she looked both ways. To the right, large open area and to her left would be the maze. "Guys, where should we wait for it? In its lair?" And of course, by the lair she meant the maze Mr. Yektaw had been talking about. It would probably be dangerous there to go that way...

"Well, we won't accidentally scupper our ships on the reef so easily in the open area. But we'll also be at the Konger's mercy, ya?" asked Wakka from the rear. he spoke loudly, but his accent made his relaxed tone all the more clear. Sure they could all be eaten by a giant fish, but hey... they might not. That seemed to be the feeling one got from it. Of course, Wakka was just trying to keep them calm. He was probably worried the most. "In the maze he won't have so many ways to come at us or avoid us, don't you think? We won't have as many ways to get away from it either, though."
Wakka turned his attention to the middle man, Tidus.
"Of course, if you want to go one-on-one in the water, then you might want more room. Not that I think that sounds like a good idea," the teen added at the end with a smile.

Tidus had remained mostly queit thus far. He stopped when Yektaw commanded, followed Selphie's lead when it was time to move. It was only upon the nexus that discussion and strategy commenced once more. So far some fair points had been stated and Tidus closed his eyes, lost in thoght. Wakka was looking at the dirty blonde, but he remained cool and collected for this.
At least, until he came up with an idea. He flashed a grin, which probably meant trouble for the gang:
"Let's take the maze. Limited movement for Konger means a better chance to fight it in the water or in our boats. I'm pretty confident in my flexibility. Mom also gave me that antitode. If I can work quickly below, with the bait that we brought...Mr. Yektaw might be able to retrieve his Harpoon. If he does, we then stand a real chance against this thing."
Tidus' plan was hairbrained, out of this world, yet more than likely expected from him as well. Also, he was the only one with the skills in Parkour to truly utilize the coral reef maze as an advantage. Though he wasn't sure if he could outswim the Konger, at the very least, if he could platform off the reefs, he'd be able to mix up the came a bit. Akin to a dolphin jumping out of water. This was thanks to his Jump Boost.
He looked to his front for Selphie, then his back to Wakka.

"Alright..the reef it is.." Selphie said a bit warily; they were taking the dangerous route after all. But she supposed that being in the open was dangerous as well. She paddled, turning towards the reef that was to the port of her ship. Selphie wasn't sure that this was a great idea, but she would trust her two best friends. Plus, this little mission they had accepted hadn't been that great of an idea in the first place but never the less she continued on. There was an award at the end after all wasn't there? And they were helping a fellow Islander.
"A'vast we shall continue forth..towards the lair of the Kronger!" she announced, raising her paddle into the air. Given her viewpoint on how this particularly wasn't a good idea, she was pretty enthusiastic about it. But, she was pretty much willing to help anybody, even if it meant her life was in danger. How dangerous could a fish be though? She bet it was all hugs, fluffiness and cuddles! Some creatures were underestimated afterall, sometimes they didn't turn out to be what people thought them to be. But maybe she was wrong.. they'd just have to wait and see.

((I don't mind. Any post made by me before you would consist of filler now, as Yektaw can't move the boat.
Actually, guys, I'd like to ask you to all post and get into your chosen area before I post again. *nods*))

"Hold on Selphie," Wakka called out from the rear as he prepared to take up the rowing oars again. "Go a bit the other way first, towards the open area. We don't need Mr. Yektaw to guide us anymore if he doesn't know the maze."
The older of the children present rowed himself up a bit closer to the group and Tidus in particular so he could speak a little less loudly and still be heard, only speaking to the other boy for now.
"Tidus, you go ahead after Selphie's out of the way. You can hang into the water from your boat to see where we can't go while following you. Just be sure the Konger isn't around when you do, ya?"
After that the redhead turned back toward the girl and the fisherman, speaking up to be heard by all again.
"Selphie, you and Mr. Yektaw follow behind Tidus. We'll keep you between us both so you have the most protection, even if it isn't much."

Tidus was grinning from ear to ear. Wakka was finally speaking his langauge. He looked over to Selphie's boat, then back to Wakka.
"Heh, I got this one...we'll catch him."
Tidus said, emitting that confidence the Ace usually portrayed. Of course he was nervous, but this was their best chance to get out of this mess in one piece. His arm subconciously grasped his red staff. Yeah he'd need it, like really, really need it. Easing himself into the water, he kept his left hand on the boat, his right hand on the staff now.
With a "bird's eye" view of the maze, he'd be able to navigate them, utilizing his boat as a beaocn so to speak.
"I hope the Konger doesn't show up just yet...but we've got the bait ready."
He mentally assured himself before traversing further.

Tidus would see underwater, just ahead, one of the rocks that made up the reef-maze. It formed a flat wall, and on either side of him were similar walls. There was a left and right passageway. The moment they began to enter the maze, something stirred. Up from the water, about 50 feet ahead, the Konger rose. He was large, perhaps as large as the boats they were rowing. His scales were a dark purple, and the spines on his back rose up, a dark angry red. His large out-of-proportion mouth was filled with many sharp teeth. And the eyes... The eyes were a pale, yellowy color... and were oozing pus. Also of note was the large harpoon, impaling it in the middle of its back and sticking straight up in the air. The Konger sank back in the water, disappearing with only a few ripples... and a small ripple spread through the water as the Konger began navigating the maze to reach them. Selphie paddled a little bit the opposite way so that Tidus could get in front of her boat. She had no objection about not being in lead, she hadn't really wanted to in the first place. Specially if it meant being attacked by the Kronger first, but surely she didn't want either of her two friends to die either. It..was just safer. Hah, such a scaredy cat! They're both going to protect you, Selphie... the least you can do is return the favor, they're your friends after all. She thought to herself as she followed after Tidus's boat, his head stuck in the water. She would do her best to help them, she had gotten them this far after all. If she didn't her mind set to help them, there wouldn't be any Selphie in teamwork between the three friends. They paddled forward, unaware that the Kronger had spotted them.

Unlike Selphie who was busy moving and Tidus was scoping out a path they could take safely, Wakka was standing up in his little ship. He was looking back and forth in both directions, the open water and the maze. He wanted to find some kind of sign of the Konger, hopefully knowing which direction it would come after them from. If this thing was a territorial predator then it would probably come for them immediately.
"Mr. Yektaw, over there!" Wakka said loudly as he pointed to the distance. It was far, but a dark shape had definitely surfaced from the deep. No doubt it was their prey.
With the creature spotted Wakka got back down into his seat and started to row himself up behind Selphie, taking his place in their line.
"Be careful Tidus!" he added. If the athlete was going to be in the water then he had better make darn sure that he wasn't going to get eaten at the same time.

[avatar]http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/NinjaKokoro/DreamSequence/14muioj.gif[/avatar]Tidus made sure to bob his head in and out of the water to get a good scope of the maze itself. He noted the reef's walls, whilst he kept a hand on his own boat.
"I will Wakka, can you guys guard my boat? I need the flexibility to lure the Konger out. Also, someone needs to release the fish bait. If we can distract it with the fish, I can get the spear back to Mr. Yektaw no problem!" the dirty blond explained. He looked over his shoulder, doggy paddling to keep afloat. His grin revealed his confidence and while he was scared, his facial expression didn't display any of it. His plan while risky was simple, with his boat being watched by the others, someone would release fish once the Konger got close by. This would be a helpful distraction while he emerged from a side of the reef. He'd push off the side of the walls, jumping out of the water. He'd need precision in order to get atop the Konger's back, particularly along the spear.
He was the man for this job, he had the flexibility to do it.
"Mr. Yektaw, how many strikes will you need to finish the Konger?"
He was risking being eaten, poisoned, or both...he had to get all the facts. This was an intense play.

"I can't tell ye fer sure, child!" Old man Yektaw replied, staring out across the waters. "But it'll be here any second, ye know! Brace yerselves for the attack! An' get outta th' water, afore ye lose a leg to th' creature's attack!"
The ripples were getting stronger, and it was clearly navigating the rest of the maze rapidly somewhere diagonal them to the left. It wouldn't be long before it was upon them.
